Got a few calls from this number saying they were from Halifax bank. They wanted my bank info and even asked for the CCV on my card, which made me uneasy, so I just hung up. Later, I called Halifax directly on the number from their website, and they said the call might be legit since the caller knew the last four digits of my card. Still, I wasn’t sold on it - anyone could get the card number, but nobody should be asking for the CCV. Felt fishy to me.

Oh definitely not Halifax, I checked with them directly. They told me they wouldn’t ring you up using an automated message like that. For me, it was fishy when they wanted my date of birth in a 6-digit style instead of the usual 8 digits. Total red flag!

This number really does belong to Halifax. Today, after buying something online, I got a text saying they thought there might be some dodgy activity on my account and that I’d get another text asking for some details. After that, the number above rang me four times, but I didn’t pick up. Just to be safe, I rang the official Halifax fraud team through their website. After telling them what happened, they let me know my card had been compromised, but the 0333 045 9571 number is actually a legit Halifax number checking whether the recent transactions were mine.

This number actually belongs to Halifax Bank’s Fraud Team. I got a text just before they phoned me, about some strange stuff happening on my bank card. They asked if the transaction was mine or if I knew anything about it. To keep it brief, they cancelled my card and I’m now waiting on a replacement. I also rang Halifax myself to double-check. Absolutely legitimate! I received an automated call solely to verify my name. It then connected me to a member of their fraud prevention team, who requested my date of birth and postcode. I got a message saying my Halifax Debit card ending in 4223 was used on 24-09-2021 at 17:08:26 at Luchu Ferras Boxpark for £21, but the payment was declined. It asked me to reply YES if it was me, or NO if not, and said no need to call. While I was actually speaking to Halifax, this number tried to cut into my call. I hung up and checked the number here. Turns out someone did manage to get hold of my new bank card and used it, and this scam text came through at the exact same time. Seriously, it’s very risky - always call your bank using their official number if you’re ever in doubt.

Halifax themselves advise hanging up and flagging these sorts of calls. Blocking the number is suggested, but really, it shouldn’t fall on us to take that action. Once a set number of reports have been lodged against a certain number, it ought to be taken offline immediately. It’s far too simple for scammers to acquire a number for their dreadful activities, and not enough is being done to dismantle their operations! It's absolutely outrageous, and it’s often the most vulnerable individuals within our society who end up paying the price.

Halifax Fraud Dept only asks you to verify any unusual payments (in my case it was because the insurance firm processed three payments of the same amount within minutes). They show you recent transactions right away and if you say you don’t know any, you get put through to someone who just double-checks your phone number, address and date of birth before moving forward with the investigation.

This afternoon I got a text from Halifax saying I'd get another text about my account with the last 4 digits of my card, then within a couple of minutes another text said a £5 payment was refused. It told me to reply with yes if it was me or no if it wasn’t. This caller said they were from Halifax, already had my card number yet asked for my pin and more info. Don’t believe this number, it’s a scam. I’m going to cancel my card, don’t feel secure using it now.

Someone said they were from halifax and wanted to ask about debit card charges. When I looked at my call logs, I saw I'd missed a call from that number earlier.
