Got a call from someone in India wanting my personal info, but I told them no way and said it seemed like a scam. They rang me back a couple of times. I just hung up each time. It’s pretty nasty how they act just like the worst scam artists before even sending any mail. I rang HMRC directly to sort it out and wouldn’t trust or dial that number again.

Loads of times, folks get a random phone call from someone claiming HMRC is looking into them. If you’re unsure who’s on the other end, it’s best not to answer or chat with them at all.

Got a text saying HMRC was going to give me a tax refund. Turns out, HMRC don't send texts about refunds at all, so it’s definitely a scam. Watch out, folks!

Got a call earlier from some robot voice claiming I’d done fraud and had to pay up or else I’d get arrested. Honestly, not really sure what to make of it.

Yeah right, definitely "HMRC" calling... like I'd believe that at all!

It's absolutely shocking that folks pulling these dodgy calls aren't locked up. You can tell from the number of times they've popped up here that this isn't some one-off. Such behaviour really deserves a spell behind bars.

Glad to know I’m not the only one who’s caught onto this. As soon as I heard the automated message had an American accent, alarm bells rang - real HMRC would never use a robo-call for something so serious, and definitely wouldn’t sound like they’re calling from the States. Plus, they’d either ring personally or send a proper letter in the post. When I asked where they were calling from, it took ages for them to respond, and when I kept asking for more info, they just cut me off. Make sure you don’t hand over your DOB or National Insurance number to these lot!

I got a voicemail from HMRC claiming there’s an arrest warrant for me, which is absolute rubbish. I’d already blocked the number but these persistent lot called again. Surely there’s a way to stop this nonsense?

Got a recorded message from someone claiming to be HMRC, saying there’s a warrant for my arrest. Nearly had a panic attack! I then phoned HMRC using their official number and they told me if they ever contacted me, it’d be from this number. They confirmed there was no warrant and it was a load of rubbish. Proper sneaky scammers, those lot.

I used to work as an HMRC Inspector and currently work as an accountant. Just a heads up for everyone - HMRC won’t ever get in touch with you through phone calls, text messages or emails. If you get anything like that, don’t reply and make sure to block those numbers straight away.

This number rang me earlier today and had called a couple days back too. I didn’t hit one or anything, but I’m thinking of just blocking them now so they don’t keep troubling me with calls.

Somebody called me and said they’d be sending someone to arrest me in less than an hour. I asked if they could just post me something instead, but they insisted they already had, and that it was sent back because I supposedly refused it. Problem is, I never got any letters at all, and my taxes are handled through PAYE by my job. I told them to come on then, as it sounded like a total con to me. They just hung up. Of course, no one showed up. Honestly, these people should be locked up for trying to scare folks like that.

Got a call from what sounded like a tax scam - some automated voice. If you stay quiet, it just hangs up on you before connecting to an actual person. Proper dodgy, claiming to be from HMRC. Don’t be fooled, HMRC always contacts you by letter first, never by phone. Stay safe out there!

They told me I’d get arrested if I didn’t hit 1. It’s unbelievable, these scams pretending to be from UK Government. There must be laws against this, right? Something really needs to be done to stop these people.
