I had a rather dodgy call claiming to be from HSBC’s fraud department. They attempted to convince me that their number was quite close to the one printed on my bank card.

They were after my one-time secure password, but I wasn’t having any of it! I promptly ended the call and reached out to the genuine HSBC straight away, and they’ve since frozen my card for good measure.

He also knew my name and even rattled off the last 4 digits of her card. Tried to get more info, but since my number isn’t tied to any Lloyds account, it was an obvious con. Felt dodgy right from the start.

He introduced himself as Christopher Nelson and mentioned something about a direct debit established in Peterborough for a wedding-related business. He seemed extremely convincing, saying he was merely there to assist me. However, when I informed him that I would reach out to my bank to verify who he was, he promptly ended the call.

Naturally, I contacted my actual bank and discovered that no such transactions had occurred. I gave the bloke a piece of my mind and told him to get lost. Honestly, don’t fall for their tricks; they really ought to be locked up for ages!

Regrettably, I ended up losing all my funds due to this scam. I can't express how heartbroken I am! For your own protection, I urge you all to steer clear of this number!

Beware of HSBC scams.

They may reach out to you requesting your username and then attempt to reset your account password by prompting you to produce a one-time security code.

Once they have that, they could easily alter your password and seize complete control over your account.

I received a call from someone claiming to be with Vodafone, but to be honest, the line was dreadful and I could hardly make out what they were saying. So, I decided to reach out to Vodafone directly after the call, and surprise, surprise-they didn’t have any record of the number at all! To be on the safe side, I’ve now blocked it. Today, on Christmas Eve, my 84-year-old father received a distressing call from someone pretending to be from HSBC. They claimed that his card had been compromised in Liverpool and that £500 had been withdrawn. It genuinely upset and stressed him out. Received a call earlier today claiming there was a dodgy transaction linked to an iPhone. Naturally, I wasn't having any of it and hung up straightaway. They then tried again from another line, 0800 917 9170, insisting they were from Santander. I let rip, telling them they should hang their heads in shame and went on about karma, refusing to let them get a word in before ending the call. I decided to ring the first number back-just my way of seeking a bit of revenge with a hand pump air horn since this isn't the first time I've encountered this nonsense. The first number was a no-show, but the second one directed me to an automated Santander answerphone, which made me cringe, thinking I'd been harsh on someone innocent. So, I rang Santander directly, and thankfully, they reassured me that there was no strange activity on my account and that both numbers were indeed fraudulent. What an absolute nightmare! It’s alarming how cunning these scammers have become; it really gets under my skin to think they prey on vulnerable folks, scaring them into handing over their personal details without a shred of conscience.
