Total scam alert! If you get a message claiming to be from HSBC, don’t trust it right away. Always ring the number on your debit or credit card or search online yourself to check. HSBC UK would never ask you to click on a link from a random text or email, no matter how official it seems. If you don’t have a mortgage or an account with them, just ignore it. Personally, I never open any links in messages like that. If it’s really something important, they’ll leave a voicemail or contact you another way. So, best to just steer clear of those links!

Seems like a scam to me. Banks usually don’t call you on a Sunday, or any weekend really. They’re closed from Friday arvo onwards! Something fishy about this for sure.

This number does belong to HSBC, but there’s a catch - fraudsters are faking calls from it. If your bank rings out of the blue, don’t trust it straight away. Hang up, wait for a moment to make sure the line’s free, and then dial the number on your bank card or official statements. The staff on the real bank line will confirm if they tried calling you. And if HSBC gives you any trouble, switching banks isn’t too hard these days. Have a look through the other comments on this thread; there’s plenty more info.

Got a text telling me some post of mine was sent back, asking me to ring this number to sort out my address. It showed up as HSBC UK on my phone, but I’ve never had an account with them, so I’m just gonna ignore it, especially after reading what others said about similar messages.

This bloke had a thick foreign accent and kept stumbling over his words, had to start again a few times. I know HSBC often outsources their call centres and the staff might not be the best trained, but this call was clearly a con, even though he quoted a legit HSBC phone number.

Over the last two years, I've gotten a few messages from this number showing up as "HSBCUK" on caller ID, and even some emails too. Problem is, I've never opened an account with HSBC, so it seems like some kinda scam to gather personal info, probably from somewhere poor. Best to just block their texts, calls and emails and not respond at all.

This number matches the one shown in the HSBC app when you go to Contact Us, so it’s definitely the right HSBC phone number.

This number showed up in an email I got supposedly from HSBC, but the whole thing screamed scam from start to finish. It was so obvious it was almost funny. I’ve never actually gotten a call from this number though.

This number kept ringing me non-stop for an entire day, which was honestly just pointless and a waste of my time. Looks like HSBC is the one behind it, and after this experience, I’m really doubting their ethics. No way I’d trust them with my banking, especially with how aggressive they acted.

This is the number HSBC employs for reporting instances of fraud. It’s trustworthy.

This number really belongs to HSBC, but my folks got a call saying their card had been used overseas. The person on the line refused to say which bank they were from, which raised my parents' eyebrows. I rang the number afterwards and it was actually HSBC, who confirmed they hadn’t made any calls about suspicious card use. If you’re unsure, always get in touch with your bank first!

Got calls twice now from someone claiming to be HSBC… If there was any issue with my account, they’d always send me a letter in the post. Just sent this on to the bank to be safe… Better not to click any links just in case.

We've had quite a few letters come through urging us to get in touch with this particular number or to deposit a giro credit into what they claim is the "HSBC UK Bank plc HO Collection Account." Frankly, I’m beginning to suspect that this isn’t a legitimate HSBC account at all. The correspondence includes an extensive account of imaginary expenses linked to a credit card we don’t even own. Every single "transaction" has been itemised, yet we can confidently say that we haven’t made any of those purchases. Quite the dubious situation, if you ask me!

We've got a huge issue with scammers pretending to be real bank numbers. Honestly, the government needs to step up and crack down on this illegal stuff ASAP. If you look a bit further down, there’s about 7 posts marked green that explain how to dodge those risky spoofed calls pretending to be from your bank.

Got a text saying it was from HSBC, with what looked like their real number. The message said my post was sent back and asked me to call to update my address. Feels like a number clone to me because I've changed my mobile number about four times since moving here, and I don’t even use that bank for anything.

Got a text saying my 0% balance transfer deal ends on 28/11/23 which ain’t right, it’s actually not up till next year. Def looks like a cloned number to me.

Just a heads up about the difference between scam numbers and spoofed ones. This isn’t actually a scam number. It’s from HSBC’s fraud team. Scam numbers need to be blocked and reported by texting ‘7726’ - that alerts your provider about the suspicious number - and also marked as dangerous on here with a red warning. But don’t do that for legit numbers, even if scammers are faking them. Check out the green and blue ratings on this page for examples.

This isn't a dodgy number. Have a look at the comments below and also just pop this number into google to see what comes up. There’s a big difference between a scam number, which is often a fake UK landline made up by fraudsters trying to trick people, and a spoofed number, which is a real company’s number copied by scammers to pretend they’re that business. Spoofing is a big issue. Blocking or marking these as scams might stop legit calls from getting through, so be careful with that.

Got a text from HSBC about an expired ISA. Sounds like it could be real based on some of the other comments, so maybe someone is faking their number because I don’t have any accounts with HSBC either. Blocked it and flagged it as a scam.

This is an authentic number belonging to HSBC, so if you have dealings with this bank, don’t dismiss or blacklist any calls from them. However, it’s tricky to pinpoint who’s truly on the other end of the line. Unscrupulous fraudsters have been known to replicate (or spoof) every phone number tied to various banks. If you receive a message from your bank, it’s wise to cut the call short, ensure your line is clear, and then ring your bank back using the number on your debit or credit card. Act promptly, as there could be an urgent issue with your account needing your attention. Be cautious: nefarious individuals might falsely report bank numbers as scams to trick customers into blocking them. Keep this safety advice close, and always verify incoming calls from your bank.

This number really does belong to HSBC, but keep in mind that scammers can fake it so their call looks like it’s coming from HSBC. If you get any unexpected calls asking for personal or bank info, just end the call immediately. The number itself is legit, not a scam.

Got a call from this number earlier, pretty sure it’s a scam and the number’s been spoofed. The bloke said he was from HSBC, asking about a dodgy transaction, gave the name Adam Green and a reference code. I didn’t share anything, just ended the call and rang the bank’s fraud team on another phone to report it was a scam.

This really looked like a proper HSBCUK call, the number matched one on a letter I got with the right account name and address. But the woman on the phone had a Pakistani accent and the line was awful, full of static and I had to ask her to say things again several times. She put me on hold about three times too, and each time was ages. The whole thing dragged on for 40 minutes and ended up costing me £7. Absolutely ridicules.

I got a letter that looked proper and was addressed to me at home saying I need to 'complete security checks regarding the services you have with us' and it looked like it was from HSBC. But I’ve never had an HSBC account, so I know it's a con. The phone number on the letter might be real or fake, but either way, be careful before calling it, even if you do bank with HSBC.

I've dialed this number quite a few times since I use HSBC for my banking. If anyone gets calls from a number pretending to be HSBC, the safest bet is to just end the call and ring them back directly. Like I said, I've contacted this number loads of times with no problems, but it’s never actually been me receiving calls from it.

Got a call from 0345 740 4404 which seems to have been spoofed. The guy accidentally admitted it was the Royal Bank of Scot and then quickly hung up when he realised his error. I can't imagine a bank ringing you up at 8:30 at night, especially on a Saturday, would they? Seems fishy to me.

This number is also used by scammers who use smart tricks. Never give out personal info or send money, even if they say they’re from your bank’s security and already know some of your details. They can even text you what looks like official messages to scare you, saying your account’s been hacked and payments are being made without your okay. They’re really good at making it sound real. Stay careful!

I received a letter that purports to be from HSBC, addressed to my son-in-law, who hasn't resided at my address for more than a decade. The missive claimed to be an invitation for him to call a number to unfreeze his account, yet there was no account number mentioned, nor was there any return address provided. Curiously, the envelope did feature a return address linked to Manston Lane in Leeds. It’s obviously a scam, though I must admit, it took me a little while to realise what was going on.

I rang HSBC using this number and it genuinely is theirs, but scammers also fake it. Honestly, I’m baffled how HSBC lets that number still get used. Be really careful if you get a call claiming to be from the bank. Especially watch out if they start asking for things like security info that they should already have on file.

I've fallen for an email scam and already cancelled my card with HSBC. But today, while I was driving, this number called me. The guy claimed to be from HSBC Fraud Team, went through my account and sort code, and said there was a transaction he needed to check with me. Then he asked if I had my HSBC security card handy. I told him I didn’t, as I was driving, and said I’d ring the bank later. That’s when he just hung up. Only then did I twig it was a scam. Proper lowlifes, honestly.

03459 404404 is definitely a dodgy number, I checked with HSBC myself. The people on the phone said I had two direct debits set up and they’d frozen them because of some dodgy activity! This is actually the real HSBC number. However, the call I got was definitely a scam, especially since the caller claimed to be from Santander. It was pretty frightening because they knew some of my personal details and tried to use them as “security” to talk about supposed “fraud on my account.” Luckily, the info they had wasn’t enough to let them into my account. When I was put on hold so the guy could “talk to his manager,” I ended the call and rang my bank immediately.

Seems like a lot of folks today just don't take the time to properly read stuff. Have a look at that HSBC notice near the top here. This number ain’t some big dangerous red alert that you should run straight to the police about. What’s happening is that loads of bank numbers have had calls faked. If your bank rings you, don’t just brush it off, but don’t give them any info either. Hang up, make sure your line’s clear, then ring your bank back on the number on your card. It’s pretty obvious what you should do.
