I just got a text from 60886 saying it’s from HMRC, telling me I haven’t paid my tax. They said they’re putting me through to an officer, but I’m a pensioner and I know I don’t owe anything. A few days ago, the same number sent a text with the same claim but asked me to call a different phone number. That other number turned out to be a scam. Even though I’m sure I don’t owe any tax, all this is really stressing me out.

**Just to clear things up - this is the official HMRC debt management number, NOT a scam!** I got a letter from HMRC that included this phone number. Had I listened to some comments here, I might have ignored a VAT payment going back to early 2019, which was actually due to a glitch when they switched over to 'making tax digital'. The number 0300 200 3832 belongs to HMRC’s debt management team. It’s a bit daft though they don’t seem to have it listed directly on their website. If you’re still unsure, give 0300 200 3700 a ring - that’s the number listed on the official HMRC site here https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/vat-enquiries . I called that number myself to double check about 0300 200 3832.

I got a call from 03002003878 today, some automated message told me to press 1 or they'd send bailiffs over for a tax debt I supposedly have. Thing is, I don't owe any tax at all, so it's definitely a scam.

Got a call from this number earlier today and when I rang back, they said it was to do with taxes. Now they want me to hang on for another call. Not really sure what’s going on here.

This number called me and played some robotic voice claiming I'd be jailed for tax fraud if I didn't hit the number one button!

Ignore it - total scam alert!!

Today I received a message asking me to call this number, supposedly from HMRC. Since I don’t owe any VAT, I’m pretty sure it’s a scam.

I've been getting this text over and over again. It says it's from HMRC but the number isn't actually registered with them. The message warns that if I haven't sent or paid my VAT Return, HMRC might start procedures to get it recovered. It tells me to visit the gov website and look up 'pay VAT' for payment info, or give them a ring on 0300 200 3832. Bit confusing since the number isn’t recognised by HMRC.

This number supposedly deals with sorting out a vat bill that never existed... not sure I believe that though.
