I got a call from someone who said they were from HMRC. When I mentioned I thought HMRC never actually call people, the guy, who sounded Scottish, hurriedly ended the call. Felt a bit dodgy to me.

Without a doubt a scam. I spoke to my accountant and they said the same. Going to report it to the police and HMRC now.

They rang me earlier and I told them straight I don’t know who they were talking about. HM Customs just wanna make money, they’re not legit at all. I never share my number with these pests... Did anyone else know that paying tax isn’t actually required by law? National Insurance is just a con, it’s used to cover some government debt linked to your birth certificate. Look up your ‘strawman’ if you want to get the full story.

Totally a bogus number!

Turns out this number is legit. I completely blanked on some tax I owed, and the amount matched exactly what my accountant told me ages ago.

Never hand over any money to callers, it’s always a scam.

Got a call from this number earlier this evening. The person said they were from HM Revenue & Customs. I was a bit wary at first, especially when they started asking for personal details, but when they explained it was about my Self-Assessment, I went along with it. They checked my identity thoroughly, saying it was to make sure they were speaking to the right person and not giving out sensitive info to anyone else (which makes sense). Actually quite glad they got in touch because it turned out I had some unpaid tax from a few years back that completely slipped my mind. Sorted it all out in the end. Definitely not a scam!

I got a call from HMRC about some unpaid taxes stretching over the last few years right up to this tax year. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was genuine but it turned out to be legit. The person on the other end was really kind and helped me clear everything up. I’m quite relieved I made the call back and sorted it all in the end!

got a phone call earlier, the bloke wanted me to verify some info before saying what the call was about. i asked him to say what it was first before i shared anything, and he said it was about my self assessment. told him i’d find the official hmrc number and ring back. he didn’t seem bothered and said they’re open until 8pm. fingers crossed they don’t bother me again.

Got a call a minute ago from this really pushy woman, who refused to say why she was ringing unless I gave her my name, address, date of birth, and even my NI number. I didn't give her anything and decided to look up the number. When I phoned back, a bloke answered and I explained what had just gone down. He totally lost it on me, so I asked to talk to his manager. That just made him angrier, so I ended the call.

Somebody rang saying they were from hmrc, but as soon as i asked for proper ID and security checks, they just stopped cooperating. I told them to stop hassling me with calls and asked them to send any claims or reasons in writing. I reckon it’s about some old supposed overpayment of tax credits from yonks ago. There’s been loads of scare tactics and bullying over what they call “historical screw-ups” by hmrc, insisting the time limits for tax don’t count. But tax credits aren’t exactly taxes, so no one’s really tested this legally because they’d likely lose.

Got a really dodgy call from a woman with a thick Scottish accent, proper pushy and rude. She claimed to be from HMRC. When I asked her to prove she was legit by telling me my National Insurance number, she just started shouting down the phone. Told me if I didn't give her my card info, she'd send bailiffs after me. She was really aggressive and threatening, proper unpleasant. I asked if I could speak to her manager, and she told me there wasn’t one, and even if there was, they wouldn’t waste time on silly security checks. I told her I’d sort my payment via BACS since there was no way I’d hand over card details to some random caller. She kept insisting she was from HMRC and how else would she know who I was. I mean, I literally just gave her my info! I did check with her again, and surprisingly she gave the correct BACS bank details for the payment. I assume they’re the same for most people. Since I actually owed some money, I just sorted it by BACS in the end.

I got a call earlier and they said my name and claimed to be from HMRC. Honestly, it felt dodgy. I don’t think the tax folks actually ring you like that. So, I just ended the call straight away.

Got a call from a grumpy bloke with a thick Scottish accent demanding my full name, address and date of birth. He reckoned I owed money to HM Revenue and got really rude when I said I wasn’t paying anything over the phone just to shut my account. I told him if he was legit, he could post me a proper bill. He said some debt collectors would reach out soon. Now I’m guessing that since he’s got my info, I’ll get a letter from those collectors telling me to phone a number, which I'm sure will charge through the roof. Proper dodgy trick, but a scam all the same. Absolute scumbags!
