No worries, could just be a small problem they have to fix with you. Maybe have a look at the HMRC site and ring them up.

Anyone claiming this is a scam clearly hasn't bothered to look into the details first. If HMRC doesn’t have your current address or there's some other problem, they wouldn’t be able to send you a letter at all.

I got a call from someone pretending to be from the VAT department at HMRC. They insisted it was urgent and that we should call them back, making sure to mention our VAT number right at the beginning of the call.

You’ll never get a call from HMRC themselves. They always send letters first. If you ignore those, then debt collectors might get involved, and if it still goes unpaid, an officer might turn up at your home. So, if you get a phone call claiming to be from them, it’s definitely a scam.

They was really insistent and kept saying we'd need to ring them back before 5pm today.

This was a legit HMRC call. They had already taken our deferred VAT payment via direct debit, but somehow it ended up being put into the wrong account.

Got a call from someone saying they were with HMRC. The bloke, called 'Jazz', kept stumbling over his words when I asked for any kind of verification. He gave me a number to ring back - like I’m gonna fall for that! Absolute tossers, keep away!

I got a call from what seemed to be a legit HMRC number. It was about VAT stuff. I suppose with that Making Tax Digital thing, they're now more pushy when reaching out to companies...

Got a voicemail claiming there was a problem with my VAT. I rang them back but they wouldn’t clearly explain what the issue actually was or why I supposedly owed money. Then they gave me wrong info about my account balance and what I was meant to owe. Next, the guy asked me to enter my card details to "settle the outstanding balance" - which I don’t even have. When I said I'd rather pay online, he just told me some random account number and sort code. Seemed really suspicious. Absolutely don’t give these people any money.

Just so people know, HMRC will always write to you if there's any tax you owe. If you get a call like this, it's most likely a scam, so don't fall for it. You don’t owe them anything until you get an official letter. Stay safe!

I'm not too sure about this number, lots of people say it's from "HMRC" but I find it hard to believe since I've never had any calls from them before. If they really need to contact me, they should just send a letter. I’m not planning on answering or calling back this number.
