just a heads up, the genuine number ends with 3835, but the fraudsters have a very close one ending in 3825. if you're trying to avoid being tricked, i'd recommend checking the official number on a gov.uk site first.

Could anyone clarify whether this is an authentic HMRC contact number? I’ve received a letter indicating that my husband needs to settle his self-assessment tax dues, and I’m a bit apprehensive about calling it.

Got a voicemail on 11/11/2019 saying it was from HMRC, warning that if I didn’t press 1 to connect, I’d be arrested straight away. I threw it in the bin instantly since HMRC always contacts you by letter first. Definitely a scam, watch out!

I got a call from this number claiming to be from HMRC, telling me to press 1 to talk to an agent. I hung up straight away, but then I rang back out of curiosity to see what it was. It was an automated voice that sounded just like HMRC’s. They asked me for my National Insurance or UTR number, my date of birth, postcode and full name. Then I was on hold for 45 minutes waiting to speak to someone, only for the call to drop suddenly. Oddly, during the call, they offered me the chance to pay a tax bill, which I don’t even have since I’m not self-employed. What really freaked me out was at the start of the call they warned me that if I didn’t press 1 and talk to them, I could be arrested! It all left me feeling quite anxious, especially as I ended up sharing personal info. Hopefully nothing bad comes from it. My advice? Don’t answer these calls. I’m convinced if HMRC needed to contact me, they’d send a proper letter. - caller: 0300 200 3825

Greetings, I received a rather alarming call from this number earlier today, claiming that HMRC was looking into me for fraudulent activities. The voice, clearly a automated system, instructed me to press 1 for further information. They ominously warned that failure to do so could result in my arrest. Naturally, I decided to hang up instead and now I'm just left pondering the possibility of being taken in by the authorities. What a bizarre turn of events, eh?

I recently had a call from this number, and I'm a bit on edge about whether it could truly be HM Revenue and Customs. Out of concern, I attempted to return the call but ended up stuck on hold for ages after providing some personal details. Upon doing a quick Google search, I found that it was listed as HMRC, but I also came across multiple reports labelling it a scam. Honestly, I’m quite confused and don’t want to miss reaching out if this is a legitimate call. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'd really appreciate any guidance!

I tend to ignore calls from numbers that aren’t saved in my phone. If it were legitimate, they’d surely leave a voicemail, wouldn’t they? I've noted the number down just in case, and then promptly blocked it and erased the call from my records.

I received two calls today, one from this particular number and another from a nearly identical one. Both attempts were clearly dodgy. It’s quite alarming how these con artists can easily make it appear as though they're contacting you from HMRC. I've also been made aware of similar scams involving text messages and emails. It’s a bit unnerving, really.
