As soon as that robotic voice came on the line, I knew it was one of those annoying spam calls and I just hung up straight away!

Got one of those calls today, didn’t pick up obviously. This week alone, I had about three from numbers starting with 0300 200 **** - looks like the scammers have a whole bunch of these. What’s tricky is that HMRC does use 0300 numbers, so it makes it a bit believable. Still, there’s no way they would get in touch like that. Total scam, pure and simple!

I got a phone call from the number 0300 200 3131 earlier. It was one of those recorded messages warning me about some supposed fraud case against me. The recording said I should press 1 to speak to a fraud officer handling the case, or else the police would be notified and I’d get arrested. I was pretty sure it was a scam straight away, so I didn’t press anything. I just hung up straight away and blocked the number to be safe. So far, no arrest for this fake “tax fraud” they claimed. Total scammer, avoid!

Yeah, if you hit 1, you might end up paying extra without realising it’s a premium rate call.

It's a complete rip off. Honestly, they deserve to be taken to court. Can't figure out why they’re still allowed to operate.

Got a call about taxes, they said to press 1 or something, then just cut me off. Total scam, just blocked the number.

Got a call saying there was tax fraud on my account and to press one. It said it would link me through to ask questions, but then it just cut off. All sounded like an automated scam.

Got a call with a recorded voice saying I’m gonna get a warrant for tax fraud from HMRC. The voice had a proper UK accent, sounded pretty official. When I pressed 1, some bloke with an American accent came on and said I’ll be connected shortly. Waited half a minute then hung up. Total scam. HMRC always sends letters by post, never calls like this.

I just had a chat with someone claiming to be from tax credits and it's definitely a scam. Really dodgy, best not to pick up the phone if they ring you.

Picked up but there was silence on the other end, so I went ahead and blocked the number.

I was cut off mid-conversation when I mentioned that HMRC doesn’t ring up threatening to take me to court; they simply show up and hand over the paperwork. I'd strongly urge everyone to report any calls you receive claiming to be from HMRC, as they’ve got a dedicated team actively investigating these scams and working to apprehend the culprits.
