Early this morning, about 8.30, I got a call from someone saying they was with Virgin Media. Their accent was really thick, sounded Indian. Honestly, I wish there was a way to stop these scam calls from people pretending to be from companies!

Watch out, it's one of those broadband scams. Don't hand over any personal details!

Getting annoyed doesn’t help much. These scam calls keep coming because hardly anyone takes the time to report them. If you scroll down 14 comments, there’s info on how to handle them.

Seems like the call was from 02, or at least it showed up as 02 on my phone, but not sure if it’s really them.

Around 1 pm today I got a call from this number but didn’t answer. Later I looked it up here and found out it’s a scam. Honestly, I’m so tired of these firms messing about like this, they really should be punished for it.

I got a missed call from this number, didn’t pick up. After looking it up, it seems like a scam. I’m gonna block it and report as well.

Somebody rang up pretending to be from our electricity company offering a discount. They couldn’t say my name or who the account was under, and when I asked them to email me at the usual address on file, they refused. I just ended the call. Pretty sure it was a scam.

Got a dodgy call just before 11pm, said it was from Tavistock in Devon. They tried to trick me into giving my bank info by claiming they had some broadband offers. Felt like a phishing scam to me. Reckon they might be running the call through a call centre somewhere else, maybe didn’t reckon on the time difference, so they’ve covered up where they’re really ringing from.

So someone rang me saying they were from O2, mentioning a loyalty discount for sticking with them for ages, which is true. They said I'd get two texts - one a security alert and the other a code to activate the discount. I did get two texts; the first warned me not to share the One Time Passcode, which I'd never asked for in the first place. The second text actually had the One Time Passcode but again told me not to give it out, even to O2 employees. When I wouldn't tell the caller the code, they got quite rude. I ended the call and blocked the number straight away.

Received a call purporting to be from O2, offering me a reduction on my monthly bill. I toyed around with the caller for a while, but they became increasingly flustered. Eventually, I decided to hang up on the conversation.

I’d strongly advise against engaging with anyone from this number; it’s undoubtedly a scam. Best to simply ignore any calls and make sure to block this number altogether!

SCAM ALERT!!! I just received a call from someone claiming to be from O2, attempting to entice me with a 30% discount on my bills. When I questioned how they obtained my number, they became increasingly persistent, urging me to repeat a six-digit code back to them. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!

Got a call from some Indian call centre saying they were Virgin Media. Didn't trust it at all, so I just ended the call and blocked them straight away. Pretty sure it was a scam.

I received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Carphone Warehouse, and then they mentioned Curry's, offering a deal for a fiver that included 50GB of data and international calls. It all seemed a bit dodgy to me, especially when they requested my email address. I'm quite suspicious that this could be a scam.

A couple of comments down explain why just blocking these numbers isn’t enough and what you can do to help put a stop to these scams. Reporting them only takes a moment, no longer than sharing your experience here. We won’t see quick results, as the authorities still don’t fully grasp how widespread these frauds are or the newest tricks scammers are using. If everyone who receives these dodgy calls or messages doesn’t bother telling the police and complaining to their MP, nothing’s going to change to halt these awful scammers.

I received a rather dubious phone call from someone purporting to be from an accident assistance hotline. They insisted they could assist me in securing insurance compensation for a car accident that I hadn’t even been involved in. Clearly, it was a run-of-the-mill scam aimed at fishing for personal details! Make sure to safeguard your banking information at all costs!

When I picked up, there was silence on the other end. They haven’t rang again after that, though - the first call was about three weeks ago, so I added the number to my contacts. But I’ve gone ahead and blocked it now anyway.

‪01822 300018‬ - Whenever a number pops up that isn’t saved in my contacts, I just ignore it. If it’s urgent or genuine, a text can easily explain why they’re calling. My phone flagged this one as likely spam, so I’ve gone ahead and blocked it. If more folks did the same, these nuisance calls wouldn’t get a chance to spread!!

I got a phone call from someone claiming to be from an insurance claims department, saying they wanted to discuss an accident I supposedly had on 1st January last year. I explained I hadn’t been involved in any accidents on that day or anytime over the past five years. Despite this, they insisted their files showed otherwise. When I pressed them about how they got this info, after a bit of dodging, they admitted it was from the DVLA. That’s when I realised it was all a load of rubbish and a total scam. I called them out on it and they just ended the call.
