I've marked these calls as dodgy, as they assert they're reaching out on behalf of Public Health England before pivoting to discuss health and life insurance. It's quite misleading, really. Is it even legal to impersonate someone from a government agency like that?

They were really pushy, kept going on about my appliance insurance ending soon. Claimed I could get a big discount if I paid up now. I ended up chatting for ages, mostly to stop her pestering anyone more gullible. When she asked for my card info, I said I was recording the call. Then she told me the company was recording it anyway. She sounded so convincing. Of course, I knew I’ve never had any policy with them. She also said I’d be sent some “cancellation papers” in the next few days. Honestly, please make sure your older family or mates know about this kinda thing!

This number rang me up about a supposed warranty on my washer. Sounded pretty convincing at first, which is what makes it risky. This bloke rang up saying he was from my insurance, trying to ‘renew’ my washing machine cover. When I asked what company he was with, he said Domestic and General. Phone rings, I answer, and suddenly silence - the call just drops. Seems like they’re testing if the number’s live and noting when someone picks up, probably to figure out when they can reach me later. I reckon they sell my number on to scammers who start calling me nonstop in the next couple of days. Honestly though, I find a bit of fun having a laugh and messing with whoever's on the other end, it’s been a bit of a distraction during the whole Covid lockdown.

Got a call about a washing machine warranty I never bought. Tried reporting to TPS but they're no help at all. What a scam!

Got a call from this number, answered, and all I got was silence. Seems like they’re just testing if someone’s there and noting when you pick up, probably to figure out when you’re around. Bet my details will be sold to some scammers who’ll start ringing me non-stop in the next couple of days. On the bright side, I’ve had some fun messing with them on the calls after lockdown - makes the whole thing a bit more bearable!

Just got a call about renewing insurance for my fridge that's pushing sixty and the washing machine I barely use. Nah, I’m not interested!

Why not just ask them who exactly they think they’re ringing? It’s always best to get straight to the point and see if they’ve got the right number. Sometimes it’s just a mix-up, but asking helps clear things up quickly.

Someone called me about renewing a policy for my washing machine. I told them straight away it sounded like a scam and asked for some info. He actually gave my late dad’s name and address correctly, but clearly had no clue that dad had passed away. Not a single word of sympathy from him, just kept pushing to renew the policy for someone who’s no longer here. He even laughed when I got annoyed. I told him firmly not to ring me again, said nicely to bugger off, then ended the call.

Got a call about insurance for my washing machine, saying I needed to renew my policy. They asked for my bank details. Definitely a scam, don’t fall for it!

Got a call looking for someone who sadly passed away more than a decade ago.

I just got a call from some so-called ‘insurance’ place trying to sell me a renewal for a policy I never even had - apparently it’s for my 12 year old washing machine! When I asked when I supposedly took out the policy, the guy said five years ago. I told him there’s no way any firm would insure a machine that old, at least seven years in by now. He didn’t have a comeback after that. How do they even have my details? Guess the TPS isn’t much good after all!

Got a call from some bloke with an accent saying he was from 'Domestic insurance' about cover for our washing machine. He kept pressuring me to renew a policy we already have, but usually they write to us, never call. Plus, it's not even time to renew yet. The guy went on about cancelling our cover if we didn’t do it right away! Really pushy and unpleasant. I reckon an older person might easily be scared into handing over their bank info.

I didn’t answer this call as the number looked unfamiliar. No voicemail was left either. I've gone ahead and blocked it, just like loads of other numbers that keep calling. Proper frustrating!

Got a missed call so I called back, but heard a voice with an American accent saying my call was being forwarded somewhere, so I just hung up.

Got a call about washing machine insurance, which I’d never heard of before, so I figured straight away it was dodgy. I just ended the call quick. Someday I might actually tell them what I’m thinking, but today wasn’t it. Honestly, I wonder how they manage to sleep at night.
