They actually said my name when I asked who it was, then weirdly just dropped the call on me.

At about 10:10 this morning, 01273655018 called me just as I was getting ready to leave to see a mate. I dashed downstairs thinking it might be them, but when I saw it wasn’t a number I recognised, I didn’t pick up. I usually ignore unknown calls - if it’s important, they’ll leave a message or send a text. It’s really annoying when these time-wasters interrupt your day! I’ve got some neurological problems, so running up and down stairs because of random calls is the last thing I need. Plus, I’m not one of those people who’s glued to their phone all the time.

I received a persistent call from someone claiming to represent Hotpoint, insisting that my insurance cover for their appliances had lapsed. When I hinted that it sounded suspiciously like a scam, she became rather aggressive. The truth is, I've never owned any Hotpoint products, which has left me quite unsettled, especially since she seemed to know quite a bit about me.

Got a call from a woman saying she was from some Domestic Appliances company. She had no clue what appliances I actually own or their brands but tried to sell me insurance on a microwave I don’t even possess! She claimed I could get 3 years cover for the cost of 2 and then passed me over to the payments team. They asked for my bank sort code and account details, which I found suspicious since I always pay by direct debit. When I said no, the person got annoyed and threatened to cancel all my insurance. I told him to go ahead and ended the call. Total scam, watch out!

I got a call from 01273655018 about some insurance for my home gadgets, saying I was meant to have a free year on a policy. I never gave them any bank info or anything, but they did know my address and postcode. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

Got a call from a bloke who said he was ringing from Domestic Appliances. He used my name and tried to chat about cover for our house name. I’ve had three calls in the space of two weeks about some sort of household appliance insurance scam. They all come from numbers that look pretty similar. Whenever I get a call from an unknown number and get a funny feeling it might be a scam, I’ll usually just pick up and stay quiet. Most of the time, the person calling thinks I’m just letting it ring on an answerphone, so they quickly hang up. Worked every time for me!

This morning my missus answered the phone and quickly said it was just a rubbish call before hanging up. Then they rang straight back again. She was a bit firmer the second time, telling them it's junk. Yet again, they phoned immediately and this time I picked up. I asked for their company registration number, which was clearly made up, and the director’s name, as our number is TPS registered. Suddenly she switched topics, saying it was about a current British Gas policy. But I don’t use British Gas for my energy nor have any contract with them. Eventually, she gave up and hung up.

Beware of this caller! I had a rather dubious individual ring me, employing some rather crafty scamming tactics. He claimed to represent my home appliance insurance company, insisting that my policy was on hold. Strangely enough, he had my name readily at hand. When I probed about the exact company, he rambled about it being situated in Surrey, which immediately raised my suspicions. Even though I would never confess to owning a domestic appliance, he persisted, probing me about any potential issues I might be facing. I played along, saying I was unsure, to which he responded, “You ought to know, since you live there.” He introduced himself as my policy advisor and mentioned that his "colleagues" might have reached out before. We entangled ourselves in a conversation about a non-existent policy that he claimed was on hold, insisting that I either renew or cancel it. I firmly told him I wouldn’t be doing either and suggested he could go ahead and cancel it if he liked, but I wasn’t inclined to take action. The dialogue ended on a rather courteous note before he hung up. He made several attempts to pry information from me, but his overzealous attitude and insistence on my need to commit to a renewal made me all the more cautious.

A lady called and knew my name and address, which was a bit creepy. She claimed her firm worked with all energy suppliers and told me that since I hadn’t arranged any boiler repairs in the last 8 months, I qualified for a discount on boiler cover. She said it would only cost £19.99 a month. I was pretty surprised, as we don’t actually have any boiler cover at all. Got a call from 01273 655018, a woman speaking really good English but with a foreign accent. She was saying something about our kitchen stuff being covered by a warranty through them. I cut her off, told her the warranty is with the shop we bought it from, not them, and that she shouldn’t be calling us. She said sorry and ended the call. She wasn’t rude or anything, but I reckon it could be a bit dodgy.

I only heard some background noise, nobody actually said anything to me.

Someone called saying my washing machine warranty was up. The company name sounded nothing like the one we actually have. They wouldn’t tell me how they got my number either. Definitely a scam. Watch out!

They rang but didn’t leave any message, so I reckon it’s probably some kind of scam.

Got a call about insurance for my cooker and washing machine, they asked for my card info. Told them no way I'm giving that out. Total scam, watch out!

Got a call from a bloke with a strange accent. He wanted to know our name but we didn’t tell him. When we asked where he was calling from, he went quiet. Asked again which company he represented, still no reply. He said it was something about insurance for our washing machine and if it was working fine. Tried to ask where he got our info from, but he dodged the question. Told him to take us off their list, as they don’t have our consent under GDPR. We just ended the call. Answered since we’d already had three decent calls earlier that morning! Typical!

So, I got a call from a number that didn’t show who it was thanks to my BT Call Guardian. The phone didn’t actually ring, and I only noticed the call when I looked at my call log later. Since I didn’t pick up or anything, I’m clueless why they called, but from what others have said, it sounds like it was one of those scam calls.

I got a call from 01273655018, a woman named Mary was on the line about some washing machine insurance renewal. When I asked her to name the machine they supposedly covered, she had no idea. Total scammer, be careful!
