It was obvious rubbish - they didn’t ask for my name or check any details to confirm who I am (NEVER SHARE YOUR INFO WITH ANYONE WHO CALLS YOU OUT OF THE BLUE). Total scam, so don’t fall for it.

I picked up the call and there was a rather long pause-approximately ten seconds, I reckon-before anything happened. Out of nowhere, I heard a strange bubble noise, and a woman on the line introduced herself as Selena. She promptly inquired whether I’d like to be in the running for an iPhone 13. To be honest, I didn’t quite catch what she said next. When she probed about the model of my phone, I shot back that it was rather irrelevant to her. Her response was, “No, sir, you’re not grasping the situation, it’s a giveaway!” I reiterated my stance about it not being her concern, and before I knew it, she dismissed me with a “thank you very much, have a pleasant day,” and promptly ended the call.

Blimey, what a pickle I got myself into! They sweet-talked me into thinking it was 'Carphone Warehouse', and seeing as I had been casting my nets far and wide that very day for SIM-only offers, I naively took the bait, thinking it was all above board and linked to my earlier web hunts. I ended up signing up for not one, but two SIM-only plans, and handed over every bit of personal info to get the ball rolling. But lo and behold, when the confirmation email popped into my inbox, it screamed dodgy. Sure enough, before I could scarcely blink, my credit card was charged and my bank account took a hit within minutes. Thankfully, my card recognised the scam and didn’t process it, while my bank surprisingly managed to reverse the transaction. So, for now, my pocket remains intact. On the downside, the fraud squad at my bank have warned me that now they've got my details, they might be applying for all sorts of things in my name. So it seems the saga is far from over. I’m not holding my breath that I’ll emerge unscathed from this mess. Oh well, lesson learned, I suppose!
