I've received numerous calls today from what seems to be a robotic answering machine, claiming there’s some strange activity linked to my account. They wanted me to confirm my name, followed by my date of birth... I decided to hang up instead.

To ensure my safety, I contacted Santander directly to check if this number was legitimate. They assured me that they don’t use such methods for communication and couldn’t identify the number at all. So, it’s definitely going on my blocked list!

So, I got a voicemail from this number and decided to call back. They made me answer a few security questions before I got put through to someone on the other end. Once the call finished, I double-checked by visiting Santander's website and rang the contact number they had listed. Turns out, the voicemail was genuine and the 0800 640 6133 line is legit and safe to use.

I've come across what seems to be the fraud department for Santander. If you're feeling a bit sceptical about it, I'd highly recommend giving the number on the back of your card a ring and going through their official fraud line instead. Someone attempted to book a holiday using my account, but thankfully, I caught it before it was too late and had a new card sent out to me. Don't just ignore the number or block it! Take the proactive step to call the bank directly and confirm. I have a gut feeling there might have been a security breach at Santander, as I've heard of several others experiencing similar issues lately.

Instead of picking up, I rang Santander’s fraud team to check it out. The details in the text matched what they had, so I was able to confirm the message and number were genuine.
