Got a voicemail saying something like, "Afternoon, this is Liam from the HMRCPAY department. This is about a payroll payment for company 08 810. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm. Some of the comments here are seriously clueless! Just to clarify, 03002003884 is definitely a real HMRC number. But guess what? That doesn’t mean a scammer isn’t spoofing that very same number - they can fake pretty much any caller ID these days. My advice? Never believe anything from HMRC unless it arrives through the post with your official reference details on it.

Totally legit HMRC number here. I actually called HMRC myself earlier, waiting on hold for about 45 minutes before I managed to get through. I asked if someone from the relevant department could return my call to talk about my repayment. They told me to pick a password so when they ring back, I’d know it’s actually them. Then they called from this very number, said the password exactly as arranged, and are now sorting out my problem. This is definitely the real deal from HMRC’s customer resolution team.

Got a call on my landline from 03002003884 today, 3rd April 2025, around 5:08pm. A bloke said he was from HMRC and started asking about my son. He told me to ring back on 03003227840. Did a quick check on that second number and it’s marked as a bogus HMRC contact. Looks like the original call was probably from a spoofed number and that callback is definitely a scam. Watch out for numbers like these!

Got a call from a bloke with a Welsh accent asking for someone called Oliver Rodriguez. Problem is, I don’t know any Oliver and that’s not my name either. I told him there’s no one here by that name, mostly because I wasn’t sure if the call was being recorded for certain keywords. The guy was quite polite, just said “oh, alright then” before I got an automated message saying goodbye. Kinda strange as I haven’t been in touch with HMRC or anything, and honestly, this was the second weird call I’ve had on my own number today.

I had a call from someone claiming to be HMRC. When they asked for my National Insurance number, I said I wasn’t sure what it was, so they gave me a contact to ring back. I checked the Tax Credit contact details on the gov.uk website and called them. They might have had a note on their system about the call I got and confirmed that the number I was given was legit. They put me through to the debt department and told me the matter was an old overpayment from 2019 that had been forgotten about. Apparently, since tax credits are being phased out, these sorts of calls are becoming more common.

Got a missed call today from 03002003884. When I checked the voicemail, some bloke with an Indian accent was saying I needed to ring him about my tax credits account. Problem is, I don't even claim tax credits! The callback number he gave was 08002008200 or something similar. He also asked for my national insurance number right away. The numbers were close but not quite the same. Not falling for it, I’m definitely not returning the call and will be blocking the number straight away. Total scam if you ask me.

This number rang me earlier pretending to be from HMRC about my tax credits. Problem is, I don’t get any benefits or tax credits, just annoying tax demands. Guess I fooled them. Still, I gotta say, they sound way slicker now, really well rehearsed. Total scam though, no doubt about it.

I work as an accountant and got a call from this number claiming to be from HMRC, asking about a client I'm currently dealing with on a case. They refused to share any info unless I passed some security checks first. Since I wasn’t expecting this call, I ended it and phoned the actual HMRC team managing my client's matter. They had no record of any call or reason for contact. It might've been legit but it felt a bit dodgy to me.
