Got a call from someone claiming to be Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs saying there’s some tax fraud on my name. They told me to press 1 to speak to an officer at HME or else a warrant would be issued and I’d be arrested soon. Honestly, it really sounded dodgy and like a total scam.

I didn't pick up, but based on the message claiming to be from hmre threatening legal steps, it's 100% a scam. You should report it to action fraud straight away.

Some bloke called me up saying I’ve got a matter with HMRC Tax and I need to jot down some details. When I mentioned someone else was there to take notes, he just told me he’d hang up and cut the line straight away.

Today, on 20/03/19, I saw I’d missed a call from this number. When I called back, there was some weird, unclear message claiming to be from HMRC. It said something about loads of calls and to either leave a voicemail or visit a fake HMRC site to pay up. Didn’t fall for it, but the idiots keep ringing me anyway.

Got calls from this number a couple times, then again earlier today. When I rang back, a lady answered and warned me it’s a scam, advising not to share any personal info over the phone. I asked what kind of scam, but she said she wasn’t sure, only that they’ve had loads of calls about it recently. She kept pushing me to grab my laptop and type something, going on about how it’s the government - totally dodgy. I asked to speak to her manager for more details, but she said there was nobody available because they were flooded with calls. I just said “really?” and ended the call, then blocked the number straight away. Definitely a scam, avoid!

Today I got a call from some folks saying I owed money to HMRC. They even threatened me with the police coming to arrest me. It was really unpleasant and quite aggressive.

Also, I got an email the other day saying I was due a tax refund, but after I reported it to HMRC’s phishing team, they said it was a scam. I just let it ring out, then when I called back, some woman’s automated voice was on the line saying there’s a big spike in calls and to go online and enter a specific HMRC address - which looked almost exactly like the real website.
