Got a call from someone pretending to be from HMRC, claiming I owed money and needed to pay up immediately. Totally felt like a debt collector scam to me. Be careful, lads and lasses, it’s a classic trick!

This number showed up on some dodgy letters, proper rubbish paper with weird handwriting, shoved through the door in a tatty envelope. It had the number 07876393246 linked to someone called Amanda Pople. All this turned up just a couple of days after my late husband’s information was published in the local paper after his inquest. Honestly, what a bunch of vultures.

Got a call from 07771 925 301, a guy called Paul pretending to work for HMRC and said he’d been to my place. I’ve got camera footage and no one turned up. People have mentioned this bloke before, calling him Derek Johnson or Gary Johnson. He left a letter but it was in a plain white envelope, nothing like the proper brown HMRC ones you usually get. He was trying to get me to pay some sort of tax. The callback number he gave was 0300 200 3856. Total con. Watch out for this one!

Today, on the 3rd of October 2023, I received a rather unsettling letter from an individual named Paul McCoy, representing The BCI Group Holdings Ltd. This correspondence asserts that I owe a staggering £23,000. Should this person decide to pay me an unwelcome visit whilst I’m at home, I can't guarantee that I will respond with anything less than significant hostility.

They came back again, these lot are proper scammers. I’ve reported it again to the police. Please, never give them any cash and be sure to report them to Action Fraud. Also ring 101 to let the police know someone might turn up at your home pretending to be from HMRC. Sometimes they say this is a “legit” number, but trust me, it’s not. The scam is very convincing, but stand your ground and keep yourself safe.

Got this dodgy letter hand-delivered, looked proper cheap like a photocopy of a copy, total rubbish. Said it was from HMRC but clearly fake, sounded like it was from someone in India. This happened in Chingford / Walthamstow. They tried scaring my missus, lucky I wasn’t there at the time. If the bloke comes back, I swear I’ll give him a good hiding. The number on the letter was 0300 200 3814.

Utterly fraudulent! I got a ring from a mobile number (07920-288219) from someone named Michael Malin, claiming to be a PAYE tax agent for HMRC. He pressured me to get in touch right away with the so-called "debt recovery team" on 0300-200 3856 to arrange a repayment scheme. I've now blocked both of those numbers.

Recently, a chap named Chris Pearson came knocking at my folks’ door, claiming he was from HMRC’s debt management division and that I supposedly owe quite a hefty sum-thousands, in fact. He even left behind a letter asserting that further charges would be imposed. I took a close look at it, and honestly, it seems a bit dodgy. For starters, there’s no signature on the reverse, and instead of a landline, there's a mobile number scribbled in the corner. They've also advised contacting the number 03002003856 on the back. Is this number for real or just another scam?

I received a text message today that certainly raised my eyebrows. It was from HMRC, reminding me once again-if I haven’t settled my PAYE dues, now’s the time to act. They were quite clear that failure to pay could lead to some serious consequences, including a potential visit from an HMRC officer who might take drastic measures, like seizing my belongings to cover the outstanding debt. If anyone's in the same boat, they encourage us to hop over to GOV.UK and look up how to pay our PAYE, or alternatively, we can call them at 0300 200 3856 for assistance. Quite the wake-up call, I must say!

Got a text on my phone just like others have mentioned. Going to block that number for sure. My landline also gets calls like this all the time, even though I've signed up to those anti-scam lists. They still manage to get through every day. I've tried using a call blocker on the landline but it only stores up to 50 numbers and that got full pretty quick, within a month. Honestly, it's frustrating how useless Ofcom seems to be at dealing with this!

I received a rather alarming text purportedly from 'HMRC' about some unresolved PAYE balance! Got another one of these scam texts pretending to be from HMRC, saying I owe money on my self assessment! I sent it to HMRC's suspicious message team around six weeks ago but never got a reply. Seems like they’re not in a hurry to sort it out!

Just got this message a few hours back!!! Says it’s from HMRC about my PAYE debt. They gave me 3 choices: 1) Call 0300 200 3856 today to sort it 2) Pay right away by looking up PAYE payment on the UK Gov site 3) Ignore it and they’ll assume I’m refusing to pay, and their enforcement team will step in. Sounds a bit fishy to me.

I've received a couple of messages from this number, both suggesting that bailiffs are on their way. Quite alarming, to say the least!

Got a text from 60886 saying to ring 0300 200 3856 about a PAYE debt. 60886 is actually a real HMRC number they use for sending login codes, which made me think it was legit, but the phone number they wanted me to call looks dodgy. I’ve already told HMRC about it.

What a farce! I just received a message claiming to be from HMRC, stating it was a "FINAL WARNING" and that they would show up at my home to seize my property over some fictitious PAYE debts. How ridiculous! For starters, I don’t even run a PAYE scheme, and to add to that, my wife is employed by HMRC, so I know full well that’s not how they handle debt collection. It’s all utterly laughable. I’ve already blocked the number-what a nuisance!

It seems to be an ongoing issue; I got a message last week and another one today. Being an accountant, I'm quite aware of my PAYE obligations and can assure you there’s no outstanding debt on my side. The text originated from 60886, the same number I’ve received notifications from regarding tax credits, so it seemed legitimate. I’m puzzled as to how they’re utilising the same number? Quite baffling, really!

Got a text supposedly from HMRC with the number 0300 200 3856. But HMRC never sends texts, they always send letters. Plus, I’m not even signed up for VAT or PAYE, so was definitely a scam.

I recently got a rather alarming text message purporting to be from HMRC, concerning my PAYE tax obligations, warning me that if I didn’t settle my supposed debt, an enforcement unit would be dispatched. Given my background as a freelance book-keeper before hanging up my calculator, I recognised it instantly as a SCAM! Honestly, HMRC would never reach out in such a manner. Naturally, I refrained from dialling the number they provided because I'm sure it would lead to a hefty phone bill. It’s quite maddening that these scams persist. Yet, until a feasible solution is devised, this website is a fantastic resource for verifying dubious phone numbers, which I've relied on in the past. Many thanks to UnknownPhone.com for creating such a helpful tool!

MAKE SURE TO BLOCK THIS NUMBER AT ONCE! I've only just obtained a new mobile, and within a fortnight, I've been inundated with a flood of ANNOYING messages purporting to be from HMRC. It’s nothing but a blatant SCAM! It’s high time these dodgy characters were dealt with and held accountable for their actions.

Got a text from 0300 200 3856 claiming to be HMRC, saying: “REMINDER - If you haven't paid your Self Assessment debt yet, please do so now. Failure to pay might lead to action, including a visit from an HMRC officer who could seize your goods to cover the debt. To pay, visit the UK Government website and search for 'pay SA,' or call 0300 200 3856.” I looked it up and apparently HMRC don’t send texts like this. Also, I’m not self-employed and definitely don’t owe them anything. So yeah, seems dodgy to me.

I’m really pleased I stumbled upon this website. I’ve fallen a bit behind on my PAYE and VAT, but it’s nothing too severe. Just yesterday, I received a rather alarming text that pretended to be from HMRC, saying they’d pay me a visit. I wouldn't advise calling them back. I’ve also had calls in the past that threatened me with arrest, which I’ve reported here too.

I received a rather alarming text earlier on: "IMPORTANT - Should you have yet to settle your Self Assessment arrears, it’s advisable to make the payment promptly. Failing to do so may result in repercussions, including an in-person visit from an HMRC officer, who could potentially seize your possessions to recover the owed amount. For payment details, kindly visit the UK Government’s website and search for ‘pay SA’, or alternatively, ring 0300 200 3856." Naturally, I did a bit of research, and lo and behold, HMRC has confirmed it’s nothing but a scam!

Got an alarming text yesterday stating that bailiffs would be coming round to seize our possessions due to unpaid PAYE. Just to clarify, we don’t have any staff! I called HMRC using their official number, and they assured me they would never send a message like that, plus the reference number was suspiciously brief. Definitely a SCAM!!!

A GENTLE NUDGE - If you haven’t settled your Self Assessment dues yet, now would be a good time to sort that out. Failing to do so may lead to further action, which could involve a visit from an HMRC Officer, who might take inventory of your possessions for potential sale to cover your outstanding debts. To make a payment, simply hop onto the UK Government’s website and type in ‘pay SA’ to find the necessary details, or give them a ring at 0300 200 3856.

I got a couple of texts saying I owed some PAYE money. Then I got a call from 07825546898 from someone sayin' she was Joanne Price from Revenue and Customs. I even called the number back and the voicemail said "this is Joanne Price from Revenue and Customs". When I asked what the debt was for and to send me a letter, she asked for my address. I told her no way, she should already have it. She hung up and hasn't called again. Proper clever and convincing scam, watch out!

I got a rather sinister message claiming that I had an outstanding VAT bill, warning me to call immediately or risk enforcement measures. Given that I've had previous issues with HMRC (which were due to their errors), I attempted to contact them in between my appointments, but unfortunately, the line was busy. After some investigation, I later found out that the number was tied to a scam operation. I can assure you, my VAT payments are all current!

I've received two messages from this number claiming I owe PAYE funds. So, I decided to give them a call, and it appeared to be HMRC. However, something felt off because in all my 25 years of trading, I’ve only ever received written correspondence from them, not texts. If you ask me, best to ignore those messages!
