This number showed up on some dodgy letters, proper rubbish paper with weird handwriting, shoved through the door in a tatty envelope. It had the number 07876393246 linked to someone called Amanda Pople. All this turned up just a couple of days after my late husband’s information was published in the local paper after his inquest. Honestly, what a bunch of vultures.

Got a call from 07771 925 301, a guy called Paul pretending to work for HMRC and said he’d been to my place. I’ve got camera footage and no one turned up. People have mentioned this bloke before, calling him Derek Johnson or Gary Johnson. He left a letter but it was in a plain white envelope, nothing like the proper brown HMRC ones you usually get. He was trying to get me to pay some sort of tax. The callback number he gave was 0300 200 3856. Total con. Watch out for this one!

Just got a letter today dated 3rd October 2023 from The BCI Group Holdings Ltd, supposedly from a Paul Mccoy. They’re saying I owe £23,000 or something. Honestly, if they knock on my door again while I’m home, I’m not gonna hold back - they’ll get a rude awakening.

They came back again, these lot are proper scammers. I’ve reported it again to the police. Please, never give them any cash and be sure to report them to Action Fraud. Also ring 101 to let the police know someone might turn up at your home pretending to be from HMRC. Sometimes they say this is a “legit” number, but trust me, it’s not. The scam is very convincing, but stand your ground and keep yourself safe.

Got this dodgy letter hand-delivered, looked proper cheap like a photocopy of a copy, total rubbish. Said it was from HMRC but clearly fake, sounded like it was from someone in India. This happened in Chingford / Walthamstow. They tried scaring my missus, lucky I wasn’t there at the time. If the bloke comes back, I swear I’ll give him a good hiding. The number on the letter was 0300 200 3814.

Such a dodgy call! I got a ring from a mobile, number 07920-288219, some bloke named Michael Malin claiming to be a PAYE tax agent from HMRC. He kept saying I had to urgently get in touch with the "debt recovery team" on 0300-200 3856 to arrange some kind of payment plan. I've gone ahead and blocked both those numbers now.

A bloke came round to my folks’ place introducing himself as Chris Pearson from HMRC debt management, claiming I owe a big amount of money. He left a letter behind warning about extra fees being added. When I checked it out, it didn’t seem real at all - no signature on the back and just a mobile number on the corner, no official address or anything. Plus, the letter said to ring 03002003856 - anyone know if that’s a legit number or not?

Got a text on my phone just like others have mentioned. Going to block that number for sure. My landline also gets calls like this all the time, even though I've signed up to those anti-scam lists. They still manage to get through every day. I've tried using a call blocker on the landline but it only stores up to 50 numbers and that got full pretty quick, within a month. Honestly, it's frustrating how useless Ofcom seems to be at dealing with this!

Just got this message a few hours back!!! Says it’s from HMRC about my PAYE debt. They gave me 3 choices: 1) Call 0300 200 3856 today to sort it 2) Pay right away by looking up PAYE payment on the UK Gov site 3) Ignore it and they’ll assume I’m refusing to pay, and their enforcement team will step in. Sounds a bit fishy to me.

Got a text from 60886 saying to ring 0300 200 3856 about a PAYE debt. 60886 is actually a real HMRC number they use for sending login codes, which made me think it was legit, but the phone number they wanted me to call looks dodgy. I’ve already told HMRC about it.

Total scam. I got a message claiming to be from HMRC saying "FINAL REMINDER" and threatening that they'd come to my house and sell it off to cover my PAYE debts. Absolutely ridiculous. I don’t even run a PAYE scheme and my partner works at HMRC, so I know for a fact that’s not how they handle debt. Blocked the number straight away.

Its still going on; got one last week and another today. I work as an accountant so I'd definitely be aware if I owed any PAYE money, but I got a text from 60886 which was the same number tax credits use, so it seemed legit. I can't figure out how they got the same texting number though?????

Got a text supposedly from HMRC with the number 0300 200 3856. But HMRC never sends texts, they always send letters. Plus, I’m not even signed up for VAT or PAYE, so was definitely a scam.

I got a message claiming to be from HMRC warning me about some PAYE debt and threatening enforcement action if I didn’t pay up. Having worked as a freelance bookkeeper until I retired, I instantly recognised it for the SCAM it was! HMRC wouldn’t ever get in touch like that. I didn’t bother calling the number they gave - figured it’d probably cost me a bomb. It’s really annoying these scams keep going around. But until a proper fix is found, this site is brilliant for checking out dodgy numbers. I’ve used it a few times before and it’s been really helpful. Big thanks to UnknownPhone.com for the website!

Honestly, block this number as soon as you can. I got a new phone about a fortnight ago and pretty quick after started getting all these annoying messages pretending to be from HMRC. It’s obviously a scam and something really needs to be done to stop these cowboys and catch them.

Got a text from 0300 200 3856 claiming to be HMRC, saying: “REMINDER - If you haven't paid your Self Assessment debt yet, please do so now. Failure to pay might lead to action, including a visit from an HMRC officer who could seize your goods to cover the debt. To pay, visit the UK Government website and search for 'pay SA,' or call 0300 200 3856.” I looked it up and apparently HMRC don’t send texts like this. Also, I’m not self-employed and definitely don’t owe them anything. So yeah, seems dodgy to me.

I’m really happy I looked this up here. I’m a bit behind on my VAT and PAYE, but it’s not a huge amount. Yesterday, I got a text saying it was from HMRC and warning me they'd come round if I didn’t pay up. Don’t bother calling them back. I’ve had calls before too, with people threatening to arrest me, which I also reported on this site.

Had a text show up on my phone today saying:
REMINDER - You need to settle your Self Assessment bill immediately. If you fail to do so, we might send an HMRC Officer around who could seize your belongings to cover the debt. For payment info, visit the UK Government site and search ‘pay SA’ or ring 0300 200 3856.

Did a quick search and apparently, HMRC confirms this is a phishing scam...

Ignore the message from 7/12/2017 about 07825 546898. This is an authentic HMRC Field Officer. The number 0300 200 3856 is also legit.

Got a nasty text yesterday saying bailiffs were on their way to seize stuff because of PAYE. We don’t even have any staff! So I phoned HMRC on their official number and they told me they wouldn’t send messages like that. Plus, the reference they gave was too short to be legit. Definitely a SCAM!

Just a quick nudge to anyone who’s yet to clear their Self Assessment bill. If it’s not sorted soon, HMRC might send someone round to check things out, and they could even seize belongings to cover what you owe. The easiest way to sort it is by heading over to the government’s site and looking up 'pay SA', or you can ring 0300 200 3856 for help. Don’t ignore it!

I got a couple of texts from 03002003856 saying I had an overdue PAYE debt to pay immediately. When I called the number back, they had no info about me at all. Honestly, saying I fell for it is putting it lightly! I’d just cleared a big HMRC bill and was gutted to think I owed even more. Don’t fall for this scam like I did!

I got a couple of texts saying I owed some PAYE money. Then I got a call from 07825546898 from someone sayin' she was Joanne Price from Revenue and Customs. I even called the number back and the voicemail said "this is Joanne Price from Revenue and Customs". When I asked what the debt was for and to send me a letter, she asked for my address. I told her no way, she should already have it. She hung up and hasn't called again. Proper clever and convincing scam, watch out!

Got a dodgy text claiming I owed VAT and that if I didn’t ring today, they’d start enforcement action. I’ve had my run-ins with HMRC before (through no fault of mine), so I tried calling the number quickly between meetings, but no one picked up. When I looked up the number later on, turns out it was just a scam. For the record, my VAT is all paid and sorted.
