Phone number ☎️ 03002003838 👆 is reported as a genuine HMRC VAT debt management number used to contact businesses or sole traders regarding outstanding VAT payments or returns. Security checks asked during calls involve basic identity confirmation, never bank details. Ignoring genuine HMRC VAT debt calls may lead to formal demands or debt collection action.

Got a call on my work landline from someone claiming to be the HMRC VAT department. They left a message with a ref number and a phone number to ring them back. Since I’m not VAT registered, I asked my accountant if he’d had any contact, but he hadn’t. He told me to just ignore it because HMRC would send a letter, not call and leave vague messages with ref numbers. Also had a couple of calls and messages on my mobile too, didn’t bother answering any of those.

Got a call from what looked like an HMRC number about a payment they'd apparently not got yet, even though it had been sorted on time. They left a voicemail with a deadline to ring them back. I waited on hold for about 15 minutes only to get told to just disregard the call! Bit dodgy going after money that was definitely paid, even if it was slightly late from their side. Definitely felt like a cheeky move from HMRC.

Just got a call from this number telling me to press 1 or I'll be arrested for fraud. Turns out it was a fake HMRC number! They're spoofing their calls, don't fall for it!

I just got a call from this number, and they claimed that if I didn't press 1, I'd be facing arrest for fraud. What a load of nonsense!

I just had a rather alarming phone call from 0300200 0274. They played a pre-recorded message claiming that there’s a tax fraud case lodged against my name and that I'd better press 1 to avoid immediate arrest. Honestly, it sounded absolutely ludicrous-I didn’t press anything! It’s obviously a scam, trying to yank your chain!

I saw a missed call from this number and decided to look it up here before calling back. Turns out it’s linked to bankruptcy details in Scotland and apparently people have been spoofing it too. Seems like a dodgy situation definitely not legit.

I received a rather curious call from 0300 200 3884, which left a voicemail that included a reference number and instructed me to ring 0300 200 3838 before 5 o'clock. Just moments after that, I got another call that sounded like a different individual asking for the Director. Considering I sold my business over two years ago, I was inclined to think it might be some sort of con. A quick search online didn't provide any clarity, so I decided to reach out via the HMRC web chat and shared both numbers with them. To my surprise, it turns out it’s not a fraudulent scheme at all; both numbers are linked to VAT debt recovery. Best to take heed, as ignoring them could lead to trouble!

I received a call and found myself waiting on hold, but in the end, I decided to hang up. They had an automated system that fired off a security question requiring information that one could easily find. After that, I finally got through to an actual person who inquired if I was calling to settle a bill. When I replied that I wasn't, I was once again put on hold. I suppose I'll give the central line a whirl next time!

Absolutely dodgy! I have no debts whatsoever, and I'm certainly not liable for any VAT. This is all completely irrelevant to me.

Authentic HMRC Debt Management specifically for businesses and sole traders, whether they are VAT registered or have opted out.
Be aware that the callback number may vary, as each office operates on different lines.
If you're uncertain, don’t hesitate to reach out to the VAT helpline and request a transfer to the VAT Debt Management team to confirm if they’ve reached out to you.

I received a call from 03002003884, and they wanted me to ring back on 0300200838. I've got to say, this honestly feels like a scam! Then, to top it off, my office line rang, and while I was speaking to them, our Managing Director was on the line with the actual HMRC, who confirmed they had no record of this call at all. What a shocker! Stay alert and definitely don’t share any personal details.

Received a call at work earlier today from someone claiming to be from HMRC regarding VAT. They didn’t leave a proper callback number, which raised a few eyebrows. I did a quick search online and found out it’s a scam - pretty concerning! This is the third time in the last couple of months I’ve had similar dodgy calls. What a nuisance!

I got a call from 03002003884 but chose not to pick up. Not long after, I received a voicemail from an unidentified person claiming to be from HMRC, referring to someone else, potentially my nephew. They insisted that I must return their call either by tomorrow or at the latest by Monday, using the number 03002003838. After looking into both numbers, the consensus seems to lean towards them being part of a scam, although a few suggestions hinted they might be linked to some unpaid VAT issues. However, it's worth noting that neither my nephew nor I are self-employed or have ever run a business. Quite concerning, really.

THIS IS NOT A CON!!!!! Honestly, some folk might suspect it's a scam, but that’s far from the truth. This number pertains to anyone who owes VAT or has yet to file an outstanding VAT return. If you choose to disregard this, you could soon find yourself inundated with demand letters from HMRC, and eventually, the debt may end up with a debt collection agency. I'm sharing this from personal experience - I got a missed call from this number and decided to ring them back. I was aware of my pending VAT bill, and they talked me through it. This isn’t some third-party firm acting for HMRC; this is genuinely from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. So, for heaven's sake, don’t just brush this number off!

I can assure you, this isn’t a fraudulent call - it’s a genuine number linked to HMRC’s VAT debt division. They request security checks to ensure that their representatives are legitimately communicating with the right individual. Just imagine if you were facing a hefty VAT bill and an HMRC agent began discussing it openly with your spouse or a colleague; that wouldn’t be very professional, would it? The representatives need to verify their conversation is with the director or company secretary. The security questions are rather straightforward, usually involving your name, address, and phone number. It's worth noting that HMRC won’t ever ask for sensitive details like bank account info as part of this verification process. So rest assured, it's not a scam!

Received a call earlier today, the 27th of March. The caller had a distinctly Asian accent and claimed that we had an outstanding VAT balance from 2013. I suspected it was a scam, so I requested them to send me all the information through the post instead.

I had a rather dubious phone call today from a gentleman named Chris, claiming to be an agent of HMRC, using the number 0300 2003838. He was rather keen to obtain my personal information for verification purposes. When I expressed my scepticism, questioning how I could be certain this call was legitimate-given that I’ve never been contacted by HMRC via a mobile number-he seemed a tad flustered. I reminded him that HMRC typically communicates via formal letters. To that, he nonchalantly replied with a rather dismissive, "yes, have a nice day." Quite the experience, I must say!
