They claimed to be from the tax office and said I was in trouble for tax fraud. They told me if I didn’t hit 1 immediately, the next call would be to say I was getting arrested.

Got a call from someone claiming I owed HMRC, but they already had my name, address, and other personal details, which felt really dodgy. Classic tax fraud scam if you ask me.

I got this call a few times telling me there’s a warrant for my arrest. Honestly, what a load of rubbish! I don’t understand why people bother with this kind of nonsense.

Just got a call this morning with the same robotic message. I’ve already sent a report about the number to the HMRC fraud team at [email protected]. I’m worried some folks might get scared and not hang up. Would really urge everyone else to report it too so HMRC can look into it properly.

I’m curious how they even came across my number to begin with. I signed up for a few other reliable websites - guess some of them must’ve passed on or sold my info!

I’ve gotten two calls already this month from this number. Best to just ignore it.

Beware of deceitful con artists masquerading as HMRC agents, brandishing threats of immediate detention for alleged tax arrears that you don’t actually owe! It's best to avoid answering such calls altogether. If you've accidentally picked up, simply hang up without engaging or pressing any buttons. And should you find yourself with a threatening voicemail, resist the temptation to return the call! Rest assured, there are absolutely NO repercussions at play here - no lingering arrest warrants exist. These thugs are merely trying to intimidate you.

I never picked up. They even gave my Viber app a ring first, then tried my regular phone right after but I just declined. And almost right away they called my Viber once more. HMRC would never be ringing through Viber, so total losers.

Got a call from this number today, warning me I’d be arrested if I didn’t press 1 to talk to someone. So I went ahead and pressed 1, then asked why I hadn’t had any official letters - I get loads from HMRC but never calls like this. They asked for my name and address, but I said I needed to put them on hold to verify the number first. Before I could check, the line just cut off! What a pair of muppets.

this number just rang me too, but i didn’t pick up ‘cause i knew from before that you get charged 55p just for a few seconds. i spoke with my phone company yesterday and asked them to block all these premium rate numbers, though they said it might take about a day to start working. last month i got loads of calls from this number and ended up paying £6.60 after answering 12 times. honestly, it’s just ridiculous.

I keep trying to answer this number but it never actually goes through. Don’t get why they bother phoning if it’s just gonna be a dead end - feels like a total waste of my time. Also, I’m puzzled by some folks saying answering this call could cost you, how’s that even possible?

I got a call from some bloke with a fake-sounding computer voice claiming I was caught up in tax evasion and was about to be nicked. HMRC wouldn’t ever ring someone up like that outta the blue. They’d have sent me loads of official letters long before any sort of arrest. These scammers should seriously find a legit job and cough up some tax themselves. Bloody hell, get lost.
