Got a call from 03002003330 with some robotic American guy saying I’m under investigation for tax fraud. I’ve always been PAYE, never had any issues. Didn’t wait for the full message and just hung up. If there was real trouble, I’m sure HMRC would send me a letter, not some dodgy recorded phone call.

I assumed HMRC had sorted out the issue with scammers pretending to be them, but clearly that’s not the case! EVERY scam call needs to be reported to 'Action Fraud'. The police document all reports of phone, text and email scams and will do what they can about it. Don’t just ignore it or hope someone else will report it. The only way to get a real picture of how bad this problem is, is if everyone reports every scam attempt. And make sure you post about it here too, so others can be warned.

Got a recorded call claiming it was from HMRC, saying there'd been some fraud with my details and that I needed to press 1. I hung up right away. Having worked at HMRC before, I know they’d never handle things like that. Plus, they don’t even have my mobile! No doubt it's a scam, so steer well clear of it.

I've heard it's possible that this really is a legit HMRC number, but lately some folks have been faking numbers like that. HMRC definitely wouldn't call and leave a voicemail saying you're gonna get arrested.

I've gotten around seven calls like this in the last few weeks, all from like three different phone numbers that seem to be real HMRC ones. It's definitely a recorded message. Can't really see how anyone could fall for it since it's so obviously a scam, but I guess some people do, otherwise they wouldn't keep doing it.

Honestly, this definitely isn’t from HMRC - someone’s clearly hacked their phone system. They’ve rang me about five times now! If it was HMRC, they’d send a letter, not just ring you up out of the blue.

I got a call from a guy with an American accent, but it was a recorded message. He kept saying something about tax fraud happening in my name, even though he never actually said my name. Pretty dodgy if you ask me.

A robotic guy with an American accent rang me saying there was a warrant out for my arrest because of tax fraud. He told me to press 1 to talk to an officer. I hung up straight away but out of curiosity, looked up the number and it turned out to be an actual number for the tax office. How does that even make sense???

Don’t share any of your info, they’re using the same number but I rang HMRC myself and they said it’s a scam.

Got a ring from this number, sounded like some robocall with an American voice claiming they were from the tax office. They told me there’d been some dodgy activity on my account and if I didn’t press one to talk to an advisor, they’d send a warrant out for my arrest. I just didn’t bother and ended the call straight away.

I got calls from a few separate numbers recently but didn’t pick up and have blocked each one now. When I looked up these numbers online, they did say HMRC, but I’ve been PAYE for more than 30 years, so there’s no way I owe or am owed anything. One call even mentioned working tax credit which doesn’t apply to me at all. Usually, HMRC sends letters through the post if there’s something important. If you think a call might be legit, just hang up and ring HMRC on their official number yourself. These calls are from hacked numbers and are definitely just scams.

I got a call from someone with a really harsh Asian accent, yelling at me about where I was and threatening to arrest me for some sort of fraud mix-up. I told him I was actually in New Zealand and that I’d just sorted my taxes for January, but he wasn’t having any of it. He accused me of lying and claimed they already knew I was in the UK and were tracing my call. Now apparently, they’re coming to pick me up and put me in custody in 20 minutes!! But seriously, I’m all the way over in New Zealand!

I picked up this call and recognized the American accent straight away. At first, I was a bit nervous but then got proper mad. I told my elderly dad about it and he said, “What if I’d actually pressed 1?” That thought really worries me. These scammers are the lowest of the low.

I got a call from 03002003327, and the bloke on the line had one of those robotic American voices. He told me to press 1, otherwise there’d be an arrest warrant out for me due to unpaid taxes. I reluctantly pressed 1, and then I was put through to a woman with an Indian accent who claimed to be an HMRC Case Officer. She mentioned their office was on 130 Westminster Road or something like that. When she asked me to verify my details, I was hesitant and asked her to say who she wanted to speak to first, since she was the one who called me.
