03002003312 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 03002003312 👆 is reported as a number frequently used in sophisticated phone scams impersonating HMRC, often featuring automated calls with American accents threatening arrest for tax fraud unless the recipient presses a button. Despite originating from a legitimate HMRC helpline number, scammers exploit number spoofing to make calls appear authentic, causing confusion and distress. HMRC confirms they primarily communicate via letters and rarely make calls, always from withheld numbers. Recipients are strongly advised not to engage, avoid pressing buttons, and block the number. These scams disproportionately target vulnerable individuals, and reports to Action Fraud or the Serious Fraud Office are encouraged. Overall, calls from this number should be treated with extreme caution, never responded to, and verified directly with official HMRC contact channels.

Just had a call from 02 8317 3237, about an hour after a previous one from that very number. Didn't pick up for either. I’ve made the decision to ignore any calls from interstate unless I know to expect them. My logic is simple: if it’s a genuine call, they’ll drop a message and I can ring back. For all the others, I look up their numbers and then just hit block. It’s a shame that scammers like these keep using different numbers; my phone is filled with blocked contacts and it’s beyond frustrating!

I received a rather dodgy call from these chaps on Tuesday. They couldn’t even manage to pronounce my name correctly! I informed them that unless they could communicate in proper English, I wouldn't be engaging further. Their reply was rather laughable-threatening to involve the police. I told them to go ahead! They’re clearly not associated with HMRC and are just fishing for personal details. So, I countered with a request for their full name, date of birth, National Insurance number, and address. Surprise, surprise, they hung up immediately! Seems they can't handle a taste of their own medicine. Whatever you do, don’t divulge any information to these scammers!

I received a voicemail that claimed to be from HMRC, but it was clearly an American voice, warning me of some tax fraud allegations and threats of arrest. They wanted me to press 1 to speak to a representative, but I could tell it was a scam right away. I regularly pass these sorts of calls on to the ICO, but despite being on the Telephone Preference Service list, the nuisance calls keep coming. If anyone else encounters similar unsolicited calls, I urge you to report them to the ICO - it's imperative we put a stop to this sort of nonsense!

I can confirm that this phone number genuinely belongs to HMRC; however, it seems that scammers have figured out how to disguise their calls, making it look like they're contacting you from this number. In reality, they’re using a different line altogether.

It's likely that a UK telecom provider, perhaps BT, is inadvertently letting these numbers be misappropriated in such a manner.

Best to disregard the call entirely since HMRC will never reach out to you via phone.

I recently received a call from this number, featuring a recorded message delivered in an American accent. After ending the call, I promptly rang the genuine HMRC hotline to verify. About three-quarters of an hour ago, I received a rather bizarre phone call. The chap on the line claimed I was embroiled in a tax evasion case, which made me chuckle uncontrollably. He seemed quite agitated and kept telling me to stop laughing, insisting he was based in London and that he was familiar with the local accent! According to him, the police were supposedly en route to apprehend me, though I was utterly baffled as to what crime I was being accused of! So far, no sign of the coppers, which has led me to suspect it’s just a dodgy scam. Interestingly, he didn’t request any personal information, perhaps because my laughter threw him off!

I recently received a phone call from this number, and it sounded like a robotic voice informing me that I was involved in a tax fraud case under my name. It really terrified me, so I quickly hung up. However, when I looked up the number online, it turned out to be associated with HMRC. But why would they be accusing me of tax fraud? I’m employed by a well-respected firm, and all my earnings are properly documented in payslips. It’s all quite baffling.

Tricking the caller ID is not particularly difficult. With the proper equipment, one can easily make any number show up on someone’s caller display. I find it hard to believe that HMRC has been breached; rather, it seems more likely that some dubious individual is leveraging a recognised number to give their con a veneer of credibility, thereby increasing their odds of success. Additionally, be cautious with your voicemail greeting-ideally, don’t include any personal details, like your name, as they could exploit that info to create associated profiles (for instance, matching a name to a mobile number). This kind of information could be invaluable for their schemes down the line.

About 03 Numbers

A lot of organizations utilize 03 numbers as an alternative to the pricier 08 numbers. As an example, numerous public sector entities have moved from 0845 numbers to 0345. The price of calls is no more than calls to geographic numbers (01 or 02). The cost of calls depend on the time of the day, and most providers offer call packages that allow free calls at specific times of the day. Mobile call costs vary based on the selected calling plan. Typically, these calls are included in free call packages.
