According to GOV.UK, this number is supposed to be for HMRC Self Assessment enquiries. However, if I didn’t expect the call, I’d still ring back using the contact details on the official GOV.UK website just to be safe.

definitely a scam, dodgy phone call dont answer it!

For about a year now, I've been getting calls saying I owe £300 for missing a self-assessment - but I’ve never been self-employed in my life. Then another says I owe £11,069, and the amount keeps switching every time they call. They start threatening about sending it to a debt collector next. Afterwards, I even got a fake letter from some supposed debt collector. They just keep turning up the pressure to frighten folks. I’ve been out of work for 10 years because of health problems.

Got a letter that looked proper from HMRC saying I’d paid too much tax and owed them £1,000 back. They even included my UTR and National Insurance number, which made it seem real. Turns out it’s a scam. Don’t even think about calling the number on it.

I’m pretty sure this number isn’t actually HMRC now - or if it is, someone’s messing about by spoofing it, probably one of those dodgy bank scams. I got an automated call warning me about fees of £199 and £899 from some businesses I’ve never dealt with. Definitely sounds fishy!

This number is really strange... my phone shows I called it for 1 hour 28 mins and labelled it as HMRC, which I did call. But it also says I got charged £3.70. I think this is a tax office line, but they never warn you it costs to call them... so annoying!

This number called me about some unpaid tax from 2016-2017… I rang back since I never got any earlier warnings and they've slapped me with interest fees! I really need to find out if this is legit or a scam?

Got a letter saying I owe £100 for not submitting a tax return for the year ending 5 April 2021. But when I checked my government gateway, everything is paid up to date. I’m not self employed, and my employer sorts all my tax, so watch out folks, this is definitely a scam.

A worker from HMRC gave out my private information and home address to someone in the public (her boyfriend), putting me and my family at risk of fraud and other dangers. Even tho HMRC accepted they messed up with this data leak, they haven't properly apologised; they've tried to cover it up to shield the person responsible; and refused to meet with me as the affected party. Until the top brass at HMRC fix their awful management problems, both past and present, I reckon taxpayers ought to be cautious when dealing with HMRC over the phone or in person.

I’ve been inundated with calls claiming to be from Amazon Prime-turned out to be a right con. I’ve informed both Amazon and the local constabulary about it. This marks the sixth dodgy call I’ve received, with a couple even coming from overseas destinations!

They said they were from Amazon Prime and said they were going to charge us. We’ve never even signed up with Amazon, so I figured they were after our bank info next. We just hung up straight away. This has happened six times now, every call from a different number. We ended every call fast and have told the police about it.

A bloke rang us on the mobile about half an hour ago, shouting about arrest warrants and criminal charges which really scared the elderly person who answered. Then he rang back from this number. I've already reported it to the HMRC phishing team - you can find their contact details online. I'd suggest anyone getting threats like this do the same.

Today this number called my uncle, who’s a relative of mine. There was a recorded message saying if you don’t press 1, you’ll have a warrant issued for tax fraud. My uncle went ahead and pressed 1, and then he got through to someone who said she was Officer Jenny Wilson. My uncle said she had a very Indian accent, though, so it seemed a bit fishy. This woman claimed to be Officer Jenny Wilson.

Right from the moment my uncle picked up the phone, he could tell it was a dodgy call. When the woman asked for his name, he told her he was Bob Dylan. Then she started asking if there was anyone else living there, to which he said no. After that, this supposed "Officer Jenny Wilson" dropped my name - I’m the nephew, by the way, writing after finding out what happened - and then she went and called me a tax evader right to my uncle! Honestly, I’m fuming about it.

I've received a message from a number claiming to be HMRC, specifically 0300 200 0233. They were going on about needing to settle a sum of £1900 and mentioned something about court proceedings. The person on the line had quite a strong Asian accent.

They say they're from BT but the number is actually one listed for the Inland Revenue. Honestly, if you fall for this nonsense, maybe you’re just not as sharp as the scammers! Best bet is to put the phone near a radio or blow a whistle down the line, they’ll quickly realise you’re on to them. These lot are the absolute worst kind of scum.

Got a call on our landline from 03002003310 probably about 10 times within a few hours. Picked up one time and it was some robotic voice saying “this is talk talk your wifi will be disconnected today” and then gave a bunch of numbers to press. Trouble is, we don’t even use TalkTalk broadband!

Got a phone call from 03008635378, does anyone know who this is? They scared me witless saying I’m in trouble for tax fraud and that I’d be taken to court. Then they told me to press 1, and when I did, there was loads of noise and the person started threatening me with jail time and said I’d be arrested any moment. Proper freaked me out.

I received a poorly recorded message informing me that there’s a warrant out for me. It instructed me to press 1 for more information. Honestly? Not a chance! I’ve blocked the number instantly.

I received all my information from them, which made it rather simple to confront them. However, the moment they requested an upfront payment, I sensed that something was amiss. Thankfully, I refrained from handing over any cash. I'm seriously considering reporting this to the authorities as well.

03002003310 I got a call from a very well spoken lady saying I’d been reported for fraud! I was completely shocked and thought maybe my ex was lying and trying to threaten me, as I reported him to the police ages ago. Luckily, my phone died right when they started saying they’d revoke my accountant’s licence within 24 hours! I tried ringing back, it genuinely sounded like HMRC, but no matter what I pressed the call dropped. My accountant told me later it was a scam. It’s awful how they target vulnerable people and cause so much stress.

I got a call from this number, much like the countless others I've had. Instinctively, I thought it might be a scam, so I decided to humour them for a bit. The 'OFFICER' was rather courteous, but the line was dreadful, and their accent was thick, making it tough to understand. After around seven minutes, I lost my cool and suggested they should send their warrants over, and just like that, they hung up! I suspect that had I continued the conversation, they would have eventually tried to extract £2600 from me-fat chance of that happening!

This is the second call this week from 003 200 3423 and 0300 200 3511, both times threatening legal action and prosecution if I didn't hit 1 to talk to the so-called officer handling my case. It was quite scary, felt just like being stopped by cops when you know you’re innocent. Seriously, they need to put a stop to these awful people before someone has a heart attack.

This morning, I received a rather alarming call from 0300 200 3313, which is linked to the tax office. It was an automated message sternly declaring that I had outstanding debts with the HMRC, and it even claimed that a warrant for my arrest was in the works! After dialling the number myself, it indeed connected to the tax office. Just a heads-up to everyone out there!

I got a rather unsettling call at precisely 10:50 this morning from the number 0300 200 3310. The caller claimed that I was under investigation for tax fraud and warned that unless I pressed "1" to connect to an investigator, a "tax warrant" would be issued against me. Not having the foggiest clue what a "tax warrant" entails, I pressed "1," only for the call to abruptly cut off. A few minutes of restless pacing accompanied by a couple of cuppas later, something just didn't sit right with me... so I took to the internet. What a stroke of luck that was! To cut a long story short - if it strikes you as dodgy, chances are it’s a scam. And honestly, if your tax situation is all squared away, there’s no cause for concern whatsoever. Let’s see these scammers try their luck - absolute muppets!

Absolutely ridiculous; they claimed I was facing court for five cases of tax evasion or big tax fraud and first rang me from 01865 522611; sounded like an Asian accent. Then they phoned again from 0300 200 3310. My tax returns are always submitted promptly and are spot on. They asked how I file my tax returns and if I was aware I was accountable and needed to be truthful. That’s when I realised it was a scam and a con artist, so I ended the call and blocked both numbers straight away.

Some bloke called me from HMRC, said his name was John Martin, asking how much I owed. I told him to check his own records and tell me. He wouldn’t cooperate. Then I asked for the bank details to pay, but he refused until I confirmed the amount. I’ve reported the number to HMRC by texting 60599 and emailing them at [email protected]. These scammers deserve to be caught and punished badly - imagine serious jail time and some proper pain for them, like no anaesthetic or anything, just fully strapped down and made to suffer.
