Sounds like it was from 118Group. They rang up to check on some business info. Since it's just my home address and I'd never heard of the company they mentioned, I told them they’d got the wrong number and asked to be taken off their list. They were quite polite and honestly seemed sorry for the mix-up.

I was in a video meeting with my screen shared, so I rejected the call since my client could see my phone ringing. Instead of waiting and trying later, they rang back straight away twice, so I had to reject both calls and then ended up blocking the number right there in front of my client! Judging by the other comments here, I probably didn’t miss anything important anyway.

Got a call from 118 about verifying company info for a free listing. Everything they were after was already on our site. I even asked if anyone actually uses 118 these days. Then they started asking if I’m planning to move in the next year - feels like they just wanna gather data for other call centres and spam me with loads more annoying calls later on.

Just checked 118 info, definitely not a scam. They get their trading details from public records like Companies House and other open sources. If you’re worried about your info being out there, hanging up won’t change much - better just to tell them directly.

Just got a call from this number. A guy said he was from 118 and wanted to check our details and update our registration. I was a bit rushed, so I gave him our company name, number of staff, and email. Then something felt off, so I asked what it was for. He said it was for updating directory info. I told him to take us off his list and the directories too. He warned that if we asked to be removed, we’d disappear from yell and similar sites. After reading other comments, I'm now worried this will just lead to loads of annoying calls from dodgy cold callers wasting our time!

Someone said they’re from 118. I don’t usually get calls like this since I signed up with the TPS. Just recently switched my line from the old copper to BT Cloud Express, which’s meant to block scam calls, but clearly didn’t help.

Nowadays, folks like me just ignore calls from numbers we don’t recognise. Real callers usually leave a voicemail. Until those in charge crack down on these pests and put harsh punishments in place, it’s never gonna end. This is basically harassment and it needs putting to an end. Reach out to your local MP - if enough of us complain, maybe parliament will finally take action against these scammers.

Feels like one of those dodgy scams trying to get you to ring back thinking it’s urgent, then hit you with crazy high charges. Really don’t get how the cops can’t catch these lot. Completely pointless!

I’m totally fed up with these horrible scammers who've got no morals whatsoever. This number has rung before, asking for someone who runs a business here! We don’t run any business at all! My partner lost his job because of Covid, so things are tough for us just like thousands of others, but we’d NEVER stoop to scamming anyone. Please don’t trust what these dodgy people are saying and stay safe out there. I’m in Scotland and these nasty scammers seem to be all over the place!

Seems like this 118 service was just updating business info - took me about two minutes and they didn’t ask me to confirm stuff that wasn’t already public. At the end, they pointed me to their website terms where you can opt out of marketing emails. When I asked if they could remove me right away, they said no. Then I said, "I never agreed to this in the first place," and they told me they weren’t obliged to send the email. Feels like a dodgy attempt by 118 to get you signed up for marketing without proper consent. Annoying and unnecessary, but probably not harmful.
