I got a phone call saying I was owed a refund from Microsoft. The caller ID showed it was from Bishop’s Stortford, but the people on the other end sounded like they were talking from some call centre in India or somewhere similar. There was loads of noise in the background, so I reckon they’re using some kind of software to mask where they’re really ringing from. They tried to get me to log into my computer to claim this £400 refund. I told them no way was I going online just because they said so. They insisted it had to be done by logging into my account so they could confirm the transfer was done properly. I told them I wasn’t about to hand over my online banking details to strangers, and as soon as I said that, they just cut the call. It’s really scary stuff - these scammers are just after your bank details to clean you out.
