We’ve had these dodgy calls ringing our home phone here in Lanarkshire loads of times recently. I don’t get why phone companies let these scammers keep using their service to try and con people? If any of us regular folks mess about with our phone line or don’t pay up, our provider’s quick to cut us off. So why don’t they do the same with these scammers? Phone companies really need to wake up and do something about this!

On Tuesday 20/10/2020, my phone was about to ring but thankfully Call Guard stopped it from going through and disturbing me. Glad it saved me the hassle.

I got a call from 01273655218, with a woman saying she was from Premier Insurance. She said the washing machine warranty could be upgraded because the manufacturer marked us as low risk. She kept pushing to put me through to her manager to finalise a deal, asking me to pay £195 at a 'discounted' rate to renew the warranty. I told her our machine’s quite old and if it failed, I’d just replace it instead. Even though she had my correct address and postcode, she was still quite pushy. In the end, I just ended the call.

I got a call from a lady overseas, she already knew my name and where I live. She was talking about some washing machine insurance, but I dont even have one. When I asked what brand she was on about, she said Hotpoint range, which is totally wrong. I told her it sounded like a scam, but she just denied it and ended the call with a "have a nice day".

This number didnt show up on BT Call Guardian at all. I’m pretty sure it was either a scammer or someone from a call centre. I’ve gone ahead and blocked it now.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from Sky about some gear I never ordered. As soon as I said I didn’t have any equipment with them, they just hung up. Pretty obvious they were fishing for bank or card info.

Got a suspicious call supposedly from Domestic and General. They tried telling me they’d charge my credit card online for some insurance payment. Totally a scam! The person on the line barely spoke English and sounded foreign. Definitely not a real Domestic and General number. Stay clear of it!

So at about 5.30 in the evening, this number, 01273655218, rang me up. I could just about make out some breathing on the other end, which was pretty odd. I thought it was probably a dodgy call because I’d seen that number pop up before. The area code shows it’s from Brighton or thereabouts.

Got a call about upgrading my insurance for the fridge and washing machine. I told the person to do just one since I didn’t have insurance on either. Then she claimed I’d been with them for more than three years! I just ended the call after that.

Got a phone call from a woman with a weird accent claiming to be Emily, said she was calling from Domestic & General or something like that about our washing machine. She tried to pitch some kind of discounted insurance for it. I asked her why she was specifically interested in the washing machine and it quickly became clear it was some dodgy phishing attempt. I called her out, saying if there was insurance she’d already know what appliances we had covered. Ended the call right away. Total scam.

Some bloke called me saying my washing machine insurance was about to expire. I said I dont have any insurance because it’s a Miele, so I don’t really need one. He kept pushing me to buy insurance though (didn’t mention my machine’s over 25 years old!). I told him he was actually breaking the law since I’m registered with the TPS. He didn’t seem to care at all! He wasn’t hanging up either so I just ended the call myself.

So my missus got a call from some bloke saying he was from Domestic & General Insurance, telling her our washing machine cover was about to expire - which isn’t true at all. He wanted her to confirm our address and postcode, then asked for her email. She wasn’t having it and didn’t give any info. Then the guy said he’d put her through to his boss, but she just ended the call straight away.
