Got a call from 01273655648, a lady with an Indian accent saying my washing machine warranty was up - even though my machine’s been going strong for more than ten years! She tried to sell me an extension but I wasn’t having any of it. Didn’t pick up after that and blocked the number straight away.

So I just got a ring from some company called Domestic Appliances, saying my washing machine insurance ended last month and asking if I wanted to renew it. I was a bit taken aback and told them so, but they insisted it was true and said they'd send the old contract in the post as proof. Thing is, our washing machine is about five years old and we've never had any insurance on it, only the manufacturer's warranty. Needless to say, I said no thanks.

This was definitely a dodgy call. I enjoyed telling the person on the other end where to shove it, but even better is passing on the info to the authorities. Just have a look on Google for 'action fraud', go to the 'police.uk' website, press the 'reporting' button, choose the phishing report bit, then scroll past the scam email details and report this number. Keep your wits about you everyone!

They said they couldn’t do that without verifying my card info first, to confirm it’s really me. I still refused, and they said the policy couldn’t go ahead.
