Got a call earlier from someone saying they were with Domestic & General, trying to get me to renew insurance on my fridge and washing machine. How they knew I had a policy with them, beats me. Thankfully, my direct debit just went through a couple of days ago, so I had my doubts right away. I asked for a contact number and said I’d ring back later. The bloke claimed his name was Alexander Smith, but it was obvious he was ringing from some sketchy call centre in India.

I got a call from someone saying they were from Domestic & General about my kitchen appliances. They knew my full name and postcode and were checking if everything was working alright. They mentioned I hadn't made a claim and said they were ringing to maybe reduce my payments. But then when they started asking for my card expiry date, and considering I pay by bankers order, I just told him to buzz off.

She called me up knowing my name, saying my washing machine’s insurance needed renewing. Thing is, I haven’t had any cover on it since I bought it, years ago. When I asked her what make it was to prove she knew what she was talking about, she dodged the question and just kept saying the insurance was due. After pressing her several times, she finally blurted out “Hotpoint” - which isn’t my machine at all. Pretty obvious it was a scam. I ended the call and let her know exactly what I thought of her!

Got a call that sounds exactly like the one mentioned at the top (from 01273 655046). The lady began by asking me to confirm my name and address - which I refused. Instead, I asked who she was and which company she worked for. She gave a company name I didn’t recognise, and honestly, I could barely catch what she said. She claimed it was a firm that provided insurance cover for my washing machine. Despite not giving her any details, she already had my name and address - probably from the Electoral Roll or something. Then she asked if my washing machine was still working. The woman had a heavy foreign accent, and the call quality was awful, like it was coming from abroad. She said my insurance was coming up for renewal and suggested I could save money. Didn’t get the details on how, but it smelt like a trap to get my bank info so I could supposedly purchase this “money-saving” offer. She said she’d send something in the post, so I just told her I’d deal with it once I’d received the letter and ended the call. I then tried calling the number back, this time with ‘141’ before it so it showed as Private Number, but after a quick answer, it went dead with a disconnected tone.

Got a call from some lot trying to mug off an elderly bloke with dementia. They asked if he fancied marrying my kid (which is bollocks, I don’t have any). When I said we were billionaires, he just laughed and told me to stop messing about. Then they wanted me to hand over more personal details. Told the bloke he should be on Joe Lycett’s show if he’s into weird phone calls like that!
