This afternoon, I got a call from someone claiming my credit card was charged at a Sainsbury’s on Nottingham Road in Mansfield. The caller said he was DC James Maddison, badge number 7593, from Chesterfield police. He gave me a phone number to ring back on, 01240 00911, but something felt off so I ended the call. I’ve tried looking up Chesterfield police’s contact info since then, but I just can’t seem to find it anywhere. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Got a call from someone claiming to be Visa/Mastercard, telling me £600 had just gone from my account abroad and to press 1 if I wanted to cancel it. It’s the same old story I’ve heard from various places before - just hang up straight away. Might be safer not to peek at your bank stuff right away in case they’ve hacked your computer. The number they called from was 01240-940437.

If you get a call from a number starting with 01240, chances are the person ringing isn’t showing their real number. That code hasn’t been assigned to any actual place yet, so it’s probably just someone faking their caller ID.
