I received a rather peculiar phone call today. The caller was searching for me by name, but it was my mate who picked up the line. She firmly explained that she wasn’t me and also mentioned that she wasn’t the account holder. Unfazed, the caller-who had a distinctly Chinese accent-insisted that my friend would suffice and began probing her with questions. My friend told him, rather assertively, to let her speak without interruptions, stating that she was from something called British Utilities and claimed she could assist. Having no clue about any such company, I'm convinced it’s one of those dodgy scams. We decided to put the phone on loudspeaker and stepped away for a bit. The caller persisted for a good three minutes, trying to provoke a response from us, before finally hanging up.

Got a call from a bloke named Darren, claiming he’s with TPM or something. He already knew my name and where I live, then tried to get my card details saying it was to stop unwanted calls. I told him no way, then he put me onto some other muppet who just hung up when I told him to jog on. Best thing is to just hang up or ignore these sorts.

I’ve just had a rather suspicious call from 01143190628. The chap on the line claimed to be from the Telephone Preference Service, insisting he needed to discuss an upgrade to my service. He then asked me to verify some 'numbers' from my bank card to prove who I was. Naturally, I wasn't comfortable with that and said so. Received a call from 01143190628 claiming to be my phone company offering to block unwanted calls. They mentioned an account holder’s details that weren’t mine and then asked me for my card info. Got a call from a guy named John, sounded like he wasn’t from Europe or somewhere close. He said he could tell I was struggling with my computer’s windows. My husband told him to get a real job and then he just hung up. This wasn’t the first time today either - earlier this morning at about 6:50, a number from the same area code but different ending rang me too. Oddly enough, he rattled it off to me first, to which I responded with a firm “no”. Then he proceeded to ask if I could confirm the sort code linked to my direct debit for a subscription! I quickly called him out for being a scammer and ended the call, only for him to have the audacity to ring me back, chiding me for hanging up! been getting calls from these jokers three times in as many days. luckily, they never actually spoke to me for some odd reason. if you're a BT customer, might be worth signing up for the 1572 service - it lets you add these kinds of numbers to a block list. its helped reduce the nuisance calls a lot for me, apart from these lot who keep switching numbers. if it keeps up, I reckon I'll ring BT and ask if they can sort it out, though I doubt they'll do anything.

Oh great, here we go once more. These annoying people have just switched the last digit of their phone number - yesterday it ended in 0626, and now it's 0628. They rang me at 10:13 this morning. Added them straight to my call blocker and reported to the ICO. And guess what? While I’m writing this, they tried calling back at 10:16. Blocked again! What a pain.

I just got a call from them AGAIN, that’s the 4th time today! The bloke had an Indian accent, knew my name, and said he was ringing about unwanted calls. I told him he’d already called me four times today, so he was the one being unwanted. Then he hung up on me.
