88222 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 88222 👆 is reported as a persistent source of unsolicited premium-rate text messages typically charging between £1.25 and £1.50 each, often without users’ consent or knowledge. Many victims across UK networks, especially O2, report frequent billing for texts they never received or authorised, with some experiencing continuous deductions over several months leading to high unexpected charges. Attempts to stop messages by replying "STOP" frequently fail or incur additional costs, and blocking the number on phones is usually ineffective. Service providers often advise setting spend limits and contacting specific helplines, but refunds are rarely guaranteed and resolving disputes is complex. This number is linked to scams under various brand names and is considered a significant consumer risk; vigilance and strict monitoring of bills are strongly recommended.

I’ve just received an eye-watering bill showing an astonishing 88,222 messages that I definitely didn’t send! I’m really hoping that by blocking those premium rate numbers, I can put an end to this madness.

Whenever this number sends you a text, it costs you £1.50 and you get nothing back. Watch out, it’s a total rip-off.

This 88222 number that O2 mentions as tap2bill hits you with a £1.25 charge for texts you don’t even get. The email linked to it doesn’t respond and the website is offline - yet O2 still takes the money from their customers expecting to pass it on.

I seriously don’t get why my phone company won’t just block 88222. They even told me I can’t stop that number from contacting me to rip me off. The only thing they can do is set my max extra monthly spend to zero, which basically makes my phone a zombie for 88222 to drain any extra funds I have. These scammers don’t care about any 'STOP' texts I send them. It feels like the providers are pocketing a fat cut from every dodgy £1.50 charge they let 88222 take. Then they have to refund the money when I complain. There’s gotta be a better way to stop 88222 for good!

Out of nowhere, I noticed charges coming off my phone from Village Inn. I never agreed to anything like this. I tried texting 88222 with STOP to cancel but nothing’s happened yet. What’s the next step here?

I've received a staggering eleven nuisance calls from the number 88222, and to top it off, I've noticed extra charges on my bill as a result. It's quite frustrating, to say the least!

I've never messaged 88222, it's dodgy. They somehow get access to your phone and then your bill shoots up crazy high at the end of the month. Plus, they keep sending texts every couple of days.

88222 This scam first showed up on my phone back in November. I realised it was dodgy and unwanted but had no clue how to block these messages (I’ve now learnt you have to text STOP to 88222). I reported the message as spam and thought that was the end of it. BUT actually, the texts kept coming every couple of days without me noticing until I checked my detailed phone bill. Turns out I’ve been charged £1.25 every two days since 16th November. Currently trying to sort a refund from O2, my provider.

I was completing a form on a stargazing info website when suddenly I got three texts, each charging me £1.50, saying I would keep getting them every month. I’m hoping I’ve managed to stop the messages now, but there wasn’t any heads-up or sign that the site wasn’t legit.

I'm really annoyed with this number keepin on texting me. They told me to call 88222 to stop it and if I want help to ring 02081253903. How can I make them stop contacting me? Anyone know? Please help, thanks.

I swore i had just logged into ITVX but a minute later im getting texts from 88222 charging me like £1.50 and £1.25 per message. Ended up £4.50 in a few mins. I texted STOP and also unsubscribed once I found out it was this place called stripey giraffe. Fingers crossed this actually stops now 🤞👍

88222 So last month I noticed my phone bill was way higher than usual but I've been so poorly I just forgot about it. Then tonight I finally checked and was gobsmacked to see this number has been charging me £1.50 every couple of days since early October! There’s been no calls from it or anything, so I have no idea how it began. I’m gonna ring Sky tomorrow and see what’s going on. Honestly, I don’t get how some people come up with these sneaky ways to nick money! Properly frustrating 😠 The name this one’s using is Stripey Giraffe.

I've just received my phone statement and noticed I've been charged for three text messages from 88222, linked to something called stripeyoffers.com. It's all rather baffling, as I've never had any dealings with them or subscribed to anything. The message implies that I can halt these texts by simply replying with "STOP".

My daughter got some invisible texts from 88222 or 03330030581 on her phone. I got in touch with O2 who blocked the number and put a £0 spend limit on her account so no paid texts can be sent or received. They opened an enquiry and told me the number is now banned from their network. I’m planning to ask for a refund since they said they’d consider one if the enquiry goes our way. I’ve also reported it to the phone services regulator. Hopefully this info helps others! Make sure to let them know you’re aware they’re onto this number!

I keep seeing this number pop up in ads on YouTube and they want your email too so folks put it in and end up getting scammed. After that, they send you messages that charge about £1.25 a text. Honestly, don’t bother replying to this number and make sure you report every message you get from it ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

I’ve been receiving these annoying texts for like 2 years and just assumed they were spam so never bothered with them. Turns out I’ve been charged £1.25 daily which has more than doubled my phone bill each month. This is completely unfair, I want all my money back!

What a load of rubbish these scammers are! My sister got billed six times for stuff from numbers like 88222 and 85222 but never received any messages for them. I gave 0333 313 7900 a ring, ended up on an answerphone, pressed 1, then entered her mobile number to try and stop the charges.

I rang 03333137900 and an answering machine picked up and gave me some choices. I just pressed (1) when asked, then it wanted the number I wanted to remove. I put in my number and that was all, job done!

Been getting charged £1.20 for each text from this number, like once or twice a week for nearly a year now! No clue who they are or what it's about. I’m with Sky and have been trying to sort it out with them, fingers crossed they refund me some of it.

I dont trust 02 at all. Im deaf and sent them a text sayin stop but they never replied. I cant hear their calls so I told my mobile to block them. Its like discrimination against deaf people. I reckon 02 just wanna make money, nothing else.

Can someone please return my money?

They keep bombing me with annoying texts at 11.08pm every night. Each message costs me £1.25. I complained to 02 a couple of times but they didn’t stop. I even warned 02 I’d involve the police if they didn’t act. After that, they finally dealt with it.

These 88222 scammers keep sending unwanted premium texts and it looks like they’ve been tricking folks for ages. Hopefully, someone reporting them can put an end to these crooks.

Got a text from 88222 saying it was Tesco Rewards. I clicked on it but then realised they were gonna charge me £5 every week unless I sent STOP to 88222. When I did text STOP, they hit me with a £1.60 fee for that message. I’d just finished shopping at Tesco so thought it was legit, what with the logo and all. Proper annoyed, felt like I got scammed big time. Anyone know if it’s possible to trace these crooks? Would be great to see them locked up for a long time to put an end to this rubbish.

I stupidly replied to a text from 'Stripey' without thinking much of it, but soon saw multiple £1.50 deductions! They do have a website where you can fill out a form to get taken off their list, which actually worked in my case. Lesson learned: never respond to random texts or emails you weren’t expecting.

Totally a scam. If you try to text back "stop," it says the number's not valid or doesn't exist.

How can I make this stop?! Please help!

Just a heads up, blocking this number doesn’t stop the fees. Our daughter has been getting charged £19.25 every month since Feb 2020. We didn’t spot it earlier because it’s taken out by Direct Debit, and she thought blocking the number would stop it.

88222 is a scam text, and even tho three networks are aware of it, they still put the charges on your bill. Loads of people keep getting these messages. If you get one, just reply with ALL STOP.

I rang up my phone company and found out they been taking money from me since the 5th of December without me knowing. Luckily, they blocked that number and took away the fees. Im checking with other providers as well, so keep an eye out!

Last month, I took part in a competition hosted on itv.com, and I've just noticed that £13 has been deducted from my bank account without any prior text alerts from 88222. I've tried messaging STOP, but to no avail. If this doesn’t get resolved, I’ll hunt down the address to lodge a complaint in person, and perhaps we could turn up in numbers to shut down their phone lines! 😂😂😂 All jokes aside, this type of thing could really cause financial strain for folks. So, 88222, if you're reading this, how about you cease your nonsense and refund people's money? Cheers! 👍👍👍

The company called Tap2bill, I think? Not quite sure what I signed up for but they charge £1.25 every time they send a message, and blocking their number doesn’t stop it. I even got charged when I tried to unsubscribe from their texts. Glad I came across this info before they charged me any more.

This number sent me over 120 messages tonight, charging me 83p each. I never agreed to any of this and now I’m stuck with a £100 bill. Loads of people on the O2 forums say they couldn’t get their money back from them. Don’t just block the number on your phone - texts keep coming and you’ll still get charged. Text STOP straight away and try to get your money back. Also double check your account has a spending limit set.

These numbers 88222 and 85222 kept sending messages to my o2 phone and ended up charging me £30 one month and £22 the next. Really annoying having extra costs like that without knowing why.

I rang 02038703288 and picked the option to cancel the service. There was also an option to talk to an 'advisor', which I went for, and asked to cancel. They told me I wouldn’t get a refund because it was signed up through my mobile. I don’t even remember doing that, and I only got one text from the premium service, yet I’ve been charged for around 25 messages.

02038703288 asks you to reply STOP to 88222 and 65019, but it only halts the charges for about a week before they start billing you again.
