Not sure how this ended up on my bill, but it charged me £6.69. I rang O2 about it and luckily they sorted a refund out for me, thank goodness!

I received a missed call from ‭0116 353 3879‬ and decided to return the call, only to be greeted by a pre-recorded message saying, “this number is no longer active. Kindly hang up and ring 0118918 instead.” I’m rather relieved I took the time to do a quick search on this number!

Should you accidentally dial a wrong number, connect with an inactive line, or reach a number that doesn't take inbound calls, you might find yourself directed to this service. It's essentially directory assistance, akin to the various 118 numbers. There's nothing misleading about it; however, if you opt to connect and linger on the line for a considerable stretch, be wary-it could lead to a hefty bill. It’s wise to jot down the correct number they provide as soon as you receive it.

Just received a missed call from 01162196695, so I thought I'd ring back. To my surprise, a voice told me, "This number is out of service. Please hang up and call 118018 instead." Quite baffling, considering I had just spoken to it! Upon looking up 118018, I found out they charge a staggering £2 plus per minute. It feels utterly dodgy, doesn’t it? Almost like they're preying on hard-working folks to line their own pockets. One has to wonder if they're actually using old numbers to rake in cash... surely that can’t be legal, can it?

I got a random call from 01162192607 on my phone, but they didn’t leave any voicemail. When I tried ringing them back with my number blocked, the recording said the number isn’t active anymore and told me to use 118048 instead, mentioning that it might be expensive to call. Quite odd!

Be careful, this is a dodgy scam. The first call came from 01628240873 and it was just a hang-up. But when I checked on 1471, it showed that number and said it’s based in Maidenhead. I tried calling it back and got a message saying the number’s not in service anymore. My advice is don’t ring 118 018 - it’s a total rip-off. They charge you at least £2 just to connect, then £2 a minute on top, plus whatever your phone company charges. Seriously, avoid calling those numbers.

Got a call from 01491 433521 earlier, but as soon as I tried to ring back, it just clicked off and then said the number wasn’t active anymore. Tried checking with 118018 and turns out it’s one of those dodgy premium numbers. Absolutely a scam, so I’d steer clear. People running these should seriously be put behind bars.

If you ring the main number for our building, it plays a message saying that the number you called isn't active anymore. Then it tells you to hang up and call 118018 instead, warning you the cost is £2 per minute. This is set up through some smart divert thingy with a pin code, but the pin was changed and now no one knows what it actually is.

I received a missed call on my mobile from NHS 24 yesterday, so I decided to return the call. To my surprise, I was informed that the number doesn’t accept incoming calls and instead was directed to ring 118018. When I did, I found out it was just a directory inquiries service. To top it off, I was charged £2.25 for the call! Quite frustrating, to say the least.

Received a call on my mobile from 02886003117 claiming to be from Cookstown. When I picked up the phone, I was met with silence. After that, I tried to ring the number back, only to find out that it was no longer in service and I was directed to 118018. This raised my eyebrows, as it was clearly an active number when they called me. As a precaution, I’ve avoided dialling 118018 altogether.

I've noticed a peculiar charge of £24.53 on my bill for a call that supposedly lasted 11 minutes and 30 seconds, made on 11th January to the number 118 018. Is anyone here a fan of the Irish lads' music group Boyzone? I reckon the entire UK ought to chip in because they're charging me a whopping £13.20 for a mere four-minute hold! And to top it off, they don't even do refunds for the service! Does no one appreciate the joys of free entertainment anymore?

Don't bother with 118018, it's a scam from Ireland supposedly raising cash for terrorism! When I rang, an automated message said to call a number charging £1 a minute. I waited on the line for about four minutes and no one answered, yet I got charged £13.20. My landline company said they can't refund me and basically couldn't care less. Proper rip off.

What a complete con!
It’s clearly an Irish call centre handling these calls and the associated contracts. One can't help but notice that all the representatives possess Irish accents and claim they’re stationed in Ireland. When you attempt to voice a complaint, they provide an email that finishes with 11890.ie. That’s simply the domain of an Irish directory inquiry service!

Today, I received a bill from BT for a call to this number, and I was absolutely furious since I never made such a call. After some heated discussions with their customer service, who insisted I had dialled it, my husband realised that this call coincided with the moment I rang our local police station. When I attempted to report a hit-and-run, the message I received was that this number was out of service, and that I would be redirected to the appropriate one. Unfortunately, it turned out to be 118018, which resulted in a hefty £16.00 charge on my bill. Since I pay BT by direct debit, they swiftly took the funds and categorically refused to refund me. I can't believe that after trying to report an incident, I've ended up feeling scammed yourself by the authorities. Now I'm reluctant to even pick up the phone.

I received a call from someone claiming to be from Bedford Council and the NHS. They inquired about any car accidents I might have experienced over the last couple of years. The call came from the Bedford area, specifically from the number 01234600377. I'm attempting to contact a local outpatient service for the NHS, but it appears that the number I've been given is defunct. I also received a 118018 number, but I'm left wondering what's really happening. It feels as though private firms are slowly creeping in and exploiting the NHS, charging extortionate rates just for a simple phone call. It's absolutely appalling!

Absolute nonsense! I've never even dialled that number, yet BT is demanding a sum of £39.57 from me. Honestly, they need to reassess their practices. At my age of 84, it feels like these scammers are honing in on older folks like myself… it’s disgraceful!

I've been in the same quandary with BT! I rang them up while I was in the heart of Mumbai, only to be met with complete resistance from the guy on the other end! He insisted I needed to fork out yet another payment........and now I'm down about £70! It’s utterly ridiculous, a full-on scam if you ask me. I even resorted to their online chat to voice my concerns, and the advisor absurdly suggested I reach out to the 118 folks instead???? I mean, seriously? Then, to top it off, they had the nerve to ask me not to complete the feedback survey as they were still 'processing' my complaint.........which, I can assure you, never transpired. Something's got to give here, as this is nothing short of a fleecing!

I can hardly believe I've been billed £31.85 for a call to 118018 that I certainly didn’t initiate. BT insists that I have to cough up the cash since it originated from my phone line. Is there any way to get this money back from the 118018 company? It feels like a right con to me!

My elderly parents recently reached out to a catalogue service, Easylife Group, using the number 0844 441 8448, which is supposedly a support line. Upon calling, they were greeted by a message stating that this number is no longer in service and were directed to ring the new number, 118018. Consequently, their TalkTalk bill reflected a charge of 14p for the call to the 0844 number, and a whopping £25.50 for the call to 118018, just to place an order for some mobility aids from Easylife. It’s rather concerning that such a company is specifically aimed at the elderly demographic-something highlighted by numerous other complaints here. Surely, action should be taken regarding their practices!

Who exactly gives the nod for these phone call interceptions? Shouldn’t the Proceeds of Crime Act be relevant in this situation? I’m quite worried, given what I've read in the comments above, that BT imposes charges even when 118018 hasn't been dialled, as was the case for me just a little while ago (Tuesday afternoon, 19/1/16). After receiving the notification on my mobile, I decided to try the landline, just in case the issue was isolated to the mobile network. This means I've now not attempted to call 118018 on two occasions. Now I'm at a bit of a loss trying to reach the number I actually need to contact.

I've just gone through my dad's BT statement and noticed it’s significantly inflated this month. There’s a peculiar entry from 22nd December 2015 showing a call to 118018 lasting 4 minutes, costing a staggering £8.43. The thing is, he didn’t make that call at all. Given that he’s blind and confined to home, he only uses the phone for chatting to family or contacting his doctor. I’ll definitely be raising this issue with BT.

I’ve just seen a fee of £2.48 on my bill for two calls I made to 118018. The number was completely unfamiliar to me, and it’s not something I would usually dial. This is utterly outrageous! Is there anyone I can contact to help put an end to these ridiculous charges?

On December 22nd, it seems that two calls were registered to this number. The first was made at 18:09, lasting 22 seconds, and charged £2.08, while the second call took place at 18:00, running for 40 seconds at the same cost of £2.08. Moving on to December 23rd, there were another two calls to this number - the first at 09:44 for 2 minutes and 10 seconds, which racked up a bill of £4.57, followed closely by a call at 09:43 for 13 seconds costing £2.08. I must say, I certainly did not initiate any of these calls, yet they appear on my itemised bill from TalkTalk. As a 77-year-old, it’s rather unsettling to think that someone could gain access to my phone and accumulate charges like this. At least it wasn’t a staggering £122 just yet!

Upon reviewing my BT telephone bill, I was quite taken aback to find three calls to 118018 numbers, totalling £21.55! Naturally, I contacted BT to inquire about this hefty charge. I insisted that I’d never dialled such numbers, under the impression they were directory services. However, they maintained that since the calls were made from my landline, I was liable for the cost. They did mention they would keep an eye on my call activity moving forward. My response was that they could monitor to their heart's content, but I refuse to pay for calls I did not initiate! I plan to have a more detailed discussion with someone on Monday, ideally someone I can comprehend better.

I've had two calls from the number 01622480262, and they were asking for me by name! The peculiar part is that I don’t even reside at that location; it's actually my partner's mum’s home! I have no connection to that address whatsoever, so it’s baffling how they even figured out that I visit there. Naturally, I was quite worried about how they’d got hold of my number, so I decided to ring them back. All I was met with was a robotic voice directing me to contact 118018. Not wanting to play along, I hung up and then tried 110018, which turned out to be directory enquiries. They informed me there was an issue with the line and advised to try again later. After perusing a few blogs about this number, I’ve made up my mind - I absolutely will NOT be calling it again.
