I reckon this is a right scam. Got a call today from someone claiming to be Barclaycard, saying some card linked to "Alexander Gibbons" might be at risk. Problem is, I don’t own any Barclaycard, and there’s never been anyone called Alexander Gibbons living here or using this phone. I’m not bothering to call them back, it’ll probably end up costing me loads on the bill.

I got an automated call from 08453561012 that actually used my name and told me to call 0845 3561011. When I rang that number back, it was a robot asking for my credit card details. Felt a bit dodgy, so I didn’t say a word and hung up. Later, I phoned the Barclaycard Fraud Department using the number on their official site, and they said the initial call was legit.

On the 14th of May, I got an automated call on both my mobile and landline saying it was from Barclaycard. They told me to call 08453561011 to talk about fraud protection. I decided to call the proper Barclaycard fraud team using the number from their official site. After checking my account, they said all was normal and didn’t know anything about that 0845 number. Seems like a dodgy call to me.

This number is legit, but it’s best to be cautious and use the contact info on your bank card if you’re returning a call. I got a call telling me to ring the Barclays fraud team on this exact number (which just went to voicemail on both my mobile and landline). Instead of calling straight back, I dialed the number from the back of my bank card. Barclays confirmed it was a genuine call and told me about my most recent transaction - importantly, I didn’t give them any personal info. They explained that my card had been flagged as at risk for fraud, so they’re sending me a new one and asked me to destroy the old card. I checked my banking app right after, and the card number was already updated there.

I got a call saying I should contact the Barclay Fraud Team on 08453561011. They mentioned the last four digits of my card and asked me about my birthday from a few options. Then I received another call on my phone from the Barclaycard Fraud Dept and they asked me about my last few purchases. This number rang me and left a voicemail on my phone, warning me to call immediately or else my card might get blocked due to suspected fraud. I didn't call that number back though. Instead, I looked up the official Barclaycard number on their site and rang them. They confirmed the call was legit, from their fraud team. Since there was a chance my card was compromised, they told me to cancel the card and that they'd send out a replacement.
