It turned out that these underhanded operations can rack up charges of several quid per minute, as they’ve got some clever device to initiate sky-high premium rates that soar well beyond what you'd expect from a standard 0844. This 08445 number is clearly a cash cow for them; they pick up with a pre-recorded message thanking you for calling N M S and promptly place you on hold, racking up fees as you wait. I lost patience and hung up, but I can only guess that when they do answer, it’s along the lines of trying to discuss your PPI or Double Glazing, and they quickly clock that you’re not keen, then cut it short. It certainly seems like a lucrative little operation from where I’m standing!
