HMRC, yeah sure. My wife got two calls on her mobile today in just a couple hours, she was really shaken after the first one. I told her it’s gotta be a scam cos HMRC always sends letters for that kinda stuff, they dont just phone with threats. When I got back home, I looked it up and yep, proper dodgy scam. Weird thing was the number didn’t even show up in her call history! Then it rang once more outta nowhere.

0844 3511059 is definitely an HMRC scam. People say it’s easy not to get fooled but honestly it’s not that simple. I don’t normally pick up calls from numbers that show as withheld or international, but I’m expecting a call from the hospital about my cancer treatment so my mind isn’t really focused. I rang the number and stayed silent. The person on the other end just hung up. I’ve now reported it to HMRC using their phishing email.

These scams are ridiculously obvious. For starters, if HMRC wanted to get in touch, it’d almost always be a real person on the line, not some robotic message. Then there’s the fact they usually send a letter first. Also, even though this wasn’t the case this time, if there was some kind of arrest warrant or my home was being watched, the LAST thing HMRC would do is ring me personally to say so. It’s honestly hilarious, but sadly some unlucky folks fall for it, or worse, hand over their bank details or whatever the scammers want. Otherwise, it’d just be pure comedy.

The voice was clearly automated and couldn't even say the name of the person I was supposed to talk to properly. Definitely a scam in my book, so I blocked and deleted it straight away!

Bloody hell, got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC accusing me of dodging tax from about six years back. The bloke was stammering all over the place so I just gave him a made-up address. He kept going on about having proof and final warning letters supposedly sent there. Then he says I owe £3900 or I’m heading for court and maybe even jail! Had a good chuckle, brightened up my day for sure!
