5 yearsI've encountered a similar issue over in Ireland back in 2021. Just yesterday, I received a rather dubious call from someone claiming to be Andrew Lobo from the tax office. The call kicked off with a pre-recorded message, and shortly after, this chap came on the line. He was quite insistent, demanding €5287, asserting that paying would somehow keep me out of court. Naturally, I didn't hand over a penny. Just a word of caution to everyone out there! The number they used was (+353) 0884374720.IrelandAndrew Lobo6 yearsI received a call from someone named Dennis, and I can't shake the feeling that it was a scam.Dennis7 yearsThe phone providers really oughta do something about these calls, like put some sort of company code at the start so you can tell who’s calling. If they don’t, they should be held accountable for letting it go on. It’s getting ridic!7 yearsI was contacted by a recorded voicemail from the number 0844 351 0786, claiming to be from a chap named Andrew Lobo, apparently representing HMRC. The voice was distinctly American and sounded robotic, threatening me to get legal representation and return their call regarding a rather “urgent” issue, warning I’ll face “serious repercussions” if I don’t comply. When I returned the call, a gentleman with a noticeable Indian accent informed me of a supposed tax audit they’d conducted on my profile. He mentioned they had sent me a letter three months prior and, since they hadn’t received a response from me, they were gearing up to file charges against me for several serious offences, including: 1. Tax fraud 2. Tax evasion 3. Altering financial records, among others. They claimed I owed a staggering amount of £3986. The caller proceeded to pressure me into paying up, or else they would escalate the matter to court-suggesting I could be slapped with a fine of up to £35,000 or even face five years behind bars. When he asked me how I wished to proceed, I admitted I was utterly baffled, as his allegations made no sense whatsoever. It was all very manipulative and frightening. In a huff, he ended the conversation the moment he realised I wasn’t falling for his tactics. He threatened to seize my properties and freeze my earnings as well. I managed to jot down a badge ID: 523983 and Case Reference Number: DC/2320/R, with him identifying himself as Andrew Lobo.Andrew LoboHMRC7 yearsGot a call saying I'm involved in fake tax claims and that I should press 1 to talk to someone about it. They accused me of fraud and warned that if I didn’t hit 1, I’d be getting arrested soon. Total scam!HMRC7 yearsI experienced something similar, and I must say, it's quite unsettling. It's alarming to find oneself in such a dire financial situation without any prior knowledge of it. I was completely taken aback! It's disheartening to think that there are individuals out there who exploit the very lives that others, with great generosity, have been given. What a disgrace!7 yearsAvoid replying entirely. It's a scam from HMRC.HMRC7 yearsThis number called me, claiming to be HRC and wanted me to ring them back. I was tied up at the time so couldn’t call straight away. When I finally tried today, the number just says it’s not in service anymore. Feels dodgy to me, like a scam or something. Glad I was too busy earlier on the day of the call, probably saved me from getting stung.HRC7 yearsOn the 19th of September 2019, precisely at 10:03 in the morning, I happened upon an automated voicemail from the number 0844 351 0750, allegedly originating from Andrew Lobo’s office, which claimed to be Tax Auditors for HMRC. The voice, distinctly American and automated, warned me that I ought to have legal counsel ready, as the matter at hand was “extremely urgent,” bearing the threat of facing the full brunt of the law should I fail to respond. Curiosity got the better of me, so I returned the call, whereupon I was met by a chap with a strong Indian accent. He asserted that a tax audit had been conducted on my records and mentioned a letter they had supposedly dispatched about three months prior. Since they had not heard back from me, they were preparing to lay charges of: 1. Tax fraud 2. Tax evasion 3. Falsification of accounts, and so forth. According to their calculations, I owed a staggering £3,459.95. When he inquired about how I handled my tax filings, I explained that I engage an accountant for that purpose. However, he insisted their review of my account revealed discrepancies - which left me baffled! What was it they had compared my figures to? He urged me to settle the matter promptly, or they would escalate it to legal proceedings, threatening severe repercussions should the court find me culpable. This included the potential auction of my properties, garnishing of my wages, fines extending to £30,000, or even a prison sentence of up to five years. Should I be convicted, he indicated that a warrant for my arrest would promptly follow. When I confessed my confusion, expressing that none of the information was congruent, he remained obstinately rude throughout our conversation. He issued threats that left me quite shaken and ultimately ended the call when he recognised I was not succumbing to his intimidation tactics. Before he hung up, he managed to provide a badge ID of 523983 along with a case reference number: DC/2320. - The number to beware of: +44 844 351 0750.Andrew LoboHMRC7 yearsGot a call a moment ago from someone claiming to be Amanda White with HMRC! Felt like one of those tax fraud scams to me.7 yearsThis definitely feels like a scam. The phone company should be able to track down who’s actually tied to that number without much trouble. If they can’t name a person or a company in charge, then they should be the ones accountable. Since they keep logs of all calls made and received on their accounts, they ought to have enough info to sort this out and even give compensation to those duped (although honestly, if someone fell for it, maybe they shouldn’t be using a phone at all).7 yearsGot a call from some scammers who left me a threatening voicemail. An American-sounding woman’s voice keeps telling you to get a lawyer and ring them back about some “urgent” issue or you’ll “face the full force of the law.” What’s weird is they want you to call right back on the same number - probably a rip-off on the call charges. If you’re unsure whether it’s genuine, just visit the official HMRC site and dial one of their 0300 lines. Oddly enough, they end it with a polite “take care.”HMRCBarclays7 yearsReceived a call moments ago from an American woman who introduced herself as Dennis Taylor, urging me to get in touch with HMRC. I couldn't help but chuckle, given that my dad is in the police force. I cheekily said, "Actually, I've got a police officer right here in my living room; would you like to have a chat with him?"
