Received a dodgy call offering some energy scheme to supposedly help me secure a government grant. I've since blocked the number!

Got a phone call from some place called Aspen Capital Consultants, a call centre based in Dundee. Seemed a bit dodgy to me, so I wanted to check if anyone else had heard of them.

Absolutely on the same wavelength as Colin regarding this matter. Despite being registered with the Telephone Preference Service, we still find ourselves on the receiving end of unsolicited calls. We own one of those older BT 6500 phones, but it only has the facility to block about twenty numbers, and we've hit our limit! It’s quite frustrating, as these firms seem to switch their caller ID numbers regularly. It appears that investing in a proper call blocker is our best bet, or perhaps getting a phone that gives us the option to determine who can actually reach us, instead of just focusing on who we have to block. - Caller: 08438840025

Got a call about changing my boiler, sounded like one of those scams. They were going on about how it's urgent to do it before 2016, which makes no sense. Didn't even give me a way to say no. Avoid these calls!

Just wanted to say, I totally get what others are saying about these annoying cold calls. I used to get so many but then I bought a BT8500 phone with Phone Guardian and honestly, it’s done the trick. If you’re fed up like I was, it might be worth trying.

This company from some national list keeps ringing me up, I answered twice just to say stop but they just dropped the call. I called back and told the bloke he’d hung up, and guess what, he did it again. How come they can keep calling me like 4 times a day and I can’t get them to quit?

After getting a call I didn’t ask for, which is a bit cheeky as I’m on the TPS, I decided to ring back this number. A chap with a Scottish accent picked up and said he worked for something called the ‘Green Deal Funding Centre’. When I asked him to clarify, he admitted it wasn’t linked to any government programme, but just a private company. I told him I’d report them to the ICO, and I’ve already made the complaint. They were trying to say you had to get work done by 2016, which is pure nonsense.

Got myself some new phones with BT call guardian and honestly, they’re brilliant. Those annoying calls don’t get past at all. Definitely the best phones I've ever owned, I'd suggest anyone to get them. Whenever I spot a number that looks dodgy, I just block it straight away. Even though I’m on the Telephone Preference Service, I’ve had two random calls from this number within a week, both featuring pre-recorded messages. The first was nearly impossible to understand, while the second was supposedly about energy assessments linked to the Green Deal. They mentioned a "national database" which seemed to suggest they had some sort of official backing, and ominously stated that every household in the UK "must be assessed by 2016," clearly aimed at frightening the elderly and vulnerable into thinking they legally had to let a so-called assessor into their homes. If a company can flout the law like this in their marketing, why would anyone let them poke around their property? Make sure you report these nuisance callers to the ICO, and for legitimate info regarding the Green Deal, head straight to the official government site at www.gov.uk/green-deal-energy-saving-measures instead of falling into the trap set by con artists! - caller: Unknown

This has all the hallmarks of one of those dodgy 'government' energy grants scams.

Got a call from a cold caller the other day, but when I answered, there was nothing but silence. Bit annoying really. I'm on the do not call list and my number's ex-directory, yet these calls still come through. Feels like the TPS doesn’t do much to help.

There was a big gap of silence, and then the message came through all distorted and crackly, couldn't really hear what was said 'cause it kept breaking up.

I've been getting these super irritating automated calls about boilers nonstop, like every single day without fail. It's driving me mad! I think I'm gonna have to invest in some kind of phone system that can block these pest calls for good.

Got a random nuisance call with no message on my answerphone, and I’m on the TPS register so I’m not sure what good it actually does. The amount of these calls doesn’t seem to go down at all. Bit pointless if you ask me.

Bloody nuisance, they ring non-stop day in, day out for weeks on end.

Saw this number pop up on my caller ID, picked up but there was nothing, just silence before they cut off.

Loads of times during the day, this number has left silent messages, which is super annoying. My phone even flagged it as spam! What a pain.

Sounds like the classic boiler con to me, nothing new there.

Got a recorded call about boilers trying to sell something. Pretty annoying!

I got a call saying there were energy saving agents nearby and to press two for a callback. So I pressed two, and a bloke answered really curtly before just hanging up. Feels like I wasn’t meant to actually speak to someone when I chose that option. Plus, there was no way to say no or opt out, which was a bit dodgy.

Yet another call from this crowd! Thankfully, we’ve managed to block their number.

Has anyone got any information about this number?
