This number is real. After I made a payment online, I got a message in my Santander thread saying there were two payments requested for the same amount, and that I'd get another text from a different number. My landline keeps getting calls from the same number. I've got BT's call intercept service set up, so anyone calling has to say who they are before the call goes through to me. If they don't say anything, the call just gets blocked. The first text actually comes from what looks like a legit Santander number!!! They say they need to confirm recent activity - then another message comes from +447401080867 with info about my card ending and a fake claim of a recent Amazon purchase - they tell you to reply N or Y or ring 08082800878 with a pin they provide. But seriously, how on earth did they manage to spoof the Santander number so well?

How come this hasn’t been put to an end after all this time? Got a text that seemed legit from SANTANDER, then another one from a different number about a disputed payment. The messages had real looking transaction info, stuff there’s no way they could’ve guessed. It's the most convincing scam I’ve ever seen. How did they manage to get part of my card number right and know I’d recently bought something from the retailer mentioned? There’s definitely a data leak somewhere, which is really worrying, and clearly the banks we trust with our money aren’t able to sort this out.

I reckon it’s a good idea to answer calls from numbers you don’t know. Just picking up and hearing what they say won’t get you scammed. Don’t really say much except maybe 'who’s this and what’s it about'. After that, just use your judgement and have a rough idea about scams. It’s worth checking out a few earlier comments on this site too; sometimes there are handy tips. For this number, looks like it’s from the Santander Fraud team. But watch out, cause scammers sometimes pretend to be from this number, so there’s advice here on how to handle that.

Santander called me, and it was definitely them. I got texts from a familiar number telling me about a transaction that came from a different number, so I got a bit suspicious and checked things out when the calls went unanswered. The payment had actually gone through overnight for a strange amount to Apple.com (who I regularly pay). Then I got an email from Apple saying the payment didn’t go through. I replied Y to the text and I think everything’s sorted now. Don’t just assume it’s a scam straight away. Have a look at what the payment actually is before panicking.

Got a couple of texts and a voicemail from this number, all saying they were from Santander. After reading what others said, I reckon it’s a scam, so I just deleted the messages and blocked the number. I even checked my bank account to make sure no money was taken out like they claimed, and luckily there wasn’t, so I’m pretty sure it’s dodgy.

Banks dont usually ring you up with an automated message, or call you at all really. That’s a major red flag for a scam!

Got a call from 08082800878 on 31st Aug 2021 at 0808. It was actually Santander, cause I got two texts later on about a transaction, which posted late to my account. I replied to one of the texts to confirm. Didn’t pick up the call though, as any number can be faked, even my own landline.
