It was the fraud team from Santander. Initially, they sent me a text notifying me that someone tried to make a payment with my debit card. Actually, I got a call from Santander - they rang both my mobile and landline and sent me a text as well. I phoned back on their usual number and they said yep, it was really them.

I rang Santander using their official number, but oddly enough, I was informed that the number in question doesn't belong to them. It raised a few eyebrows for me, considering that the text came from a mobile phone. It seems rather unlikely that someone from Santander would reach out via a mobile number, don’t you think?

I got a ring from this number shortly after I’d tried to make a payment that failed. The caller ID showed “suspected Scam” which made me a bit wary. I didn’t pick up, but instead rang Santander’s official help line and they said it really was them calling. I reckon sometimes the number might be faked, but in my case it was genuine. My advice is to ignore the call and contact Santander yourself if you’ve got any doubts.
