Watch out for this one, it's super convincing but really dodgy! Got two calls tonight from this number saying they were from Santander's fraud dept. Got an email supposedly from Santander, then this number rang me. Took a look at my Santander account and saw some strange transactions - £84.34 taken out, it looked like a conversion from Euros, plus a £2.49 fee for foreign currency. The description was something odd too, said ‘Fever*TOI Le test de’ or something like that. Can't make head nor tail of it!

I can tell you for sure this is a scam. They already have some details about you, like your birthdate, which they use to make you believe their verification is legit. Then they start talking about fake declined transactions from places like Tesco or Trainline to scare you. Santander told me straight away it’s a con. I got a call this morning from what they said was Santander’s fraud team. It felt a bit off since I’ve never had a call from them before.. The guy on the line told me if I was doubtful to just hang up, wait a few minutes, then ring the number on my card.. I did exactly that and found out my new bank card had been intercepted and someone had been splurging online overnight. I’m glad I didn’t listen to the folks here saying it was probably a scam, cause if I had, I wouldn’t have bothered ringing back and I could’ve lost all the money they ended up nicking.

A few years ago I got scammed by a phone number that looked like it was from Santander. They told me there was suspicious activity on my account. I trusted them and ended up losing all my money! Never answer calls claiming to be from Santander - just hang up. Then ring the proper number on the back of your card to check if the call was legit. That’s actually what Santander’s fraud team told me to do. It saves you loads of stress trying to get your cash back! And even then, you might only recover some of it, or sometimes none at all. Just a warning so you don’t fall for the same thing!

I left a comment here back on 21/10/2019 warning that this number seemed fishy. Turns out it was actually Santander. When I checked my online banking and sent them a secure message, I discovered my credit card had been charged for something I never approved. They sorted it out and refunded me.
