I got a call from this number on my mobile with a recorded message saying it was from my 'Sainsbury’s bank card fraud team,' telling me my card had been used and to press any key to confirm if I had authorised the transaction. Since others mentioned the same number pretending to be Santander, and now it's being used with different banks, it seemed fishy to me. This number called me saying someone attempted to withdraw cash from my account. They didn’t take any payment but asked for my full name and date of birth. Then they asked if I wanted a replacement card and said if the firm tried again using another name, the bank would refund any money taken.

It said it was Santander, and honestly looked dodgy at first, but turned out there was genuine fraud on my credit card. I didn’t ring back the number that sent the text though, I used the phone number on the back of my card instead - if you're unsure, defo do it this way. They did verify the activity and said those messages were legit.

Today I got a dodgy call from 080 8280 0401 on both my landline and mobile. It seemed fishy, so instead of calling back, I looked up Santander’s fraud team number, which is 0800 7316 666. It appears 080 8280 0401 was legit, and they said my credit card had been used fraudulently for charges of £6387 and £585. Luckily, no money had actually gone out and Santander blocked my card after I spoke with them.

No one ever spoke when I answered, but the text mentioned something about "Norton" trying to charge me £95.99. I reckon it’s a genuine Santander number, and the “attempt” was probably Norton trying to bill me for a software update? Thing is, Norton never told me beforehand they’d be charging me. The message did let me reply with an “N” if I didn’t want to pay though.

Got a call from Santander saying there’s unusual activity on my lad’s credit card. They even used his full name, middle one included. If you’re a bit iffy about calls from this number, maybe just hang up and ring Santander straight away using the number on the back of your card. Santander. This number is for fraud checks, came from an automated voice. It’s used to verify online credit card payments to make sure they’re not scams. I rang Santander on the number on the back of my card and they told me how they handle bigger purchases. Basically, you need to reply straight away to a text they send when you buy online with a quick Y or N. If you ignore it, a genuine payment might get blocked and you could miss out on your booking like holidays, hotels or flights.
