Sounds like some dodgy scammers using robo-calls to grab personal info. Watch out! First they asked me to press 1 after saying my name. Then they went on about Nationwide not asking for personal info, but immediately asked for my birth date. They clearly don’t get GDPR - your date of birth counts as personal data! The voice was that cold, robotic type too, which isn’t how Nationwide usually do it; they get real people or voice actors to record their messages. I ended the call right there, feeling annoyed I’d already given them my name and linked it to my number.

I received a text from what appeared to be the official Nationwide number, urging me to get in touch with them urgently regarding my mortgage. However, I decided against responding. Instead, I phoned Nationwide directly, and they assured me it wasn't them reaching out. Just a heads up... occasionally, these messages do seem to arrive from a genuine Nationwide number. Yeah, this number is definitely Nationwide Building Society but it’s from the Mortgage Collections department. The regular phone banking folks probably don’t know about their calls. If you ring their usual number and ask for the Mortgage Collections team, they'll fill you in on what’s going on.

When you call back, there's a recorded message asking you to verify your details, supposedly from Nationwide. But it’s definitely a scam. It’s really clever and tricky. They even mentioned my full name, which was quite unsettling. They urged me to confirm my identity by pressing some buttons, and then started probing for bits of my account number. That’s when I decided to hang up. It’s blatantly a scam! If it were really Nationwide attempting to reach me, they wouldn’t conduct themselves in such a dubious manner.
