This number keeps ringing me like every day, asking me to press a key to get some "HR lesson" that starts with words like 'wide', 'hide', or 'zara'. It says stuff like “press any key to listen more” or “press any button for HRS lesson." I didn’t want to pick up since it seemed dodgy. TOTAL SCAMMERS! They’re pretending to be from Nationwide bank or something. Not a clue how they got my info - maybe there’s been a data leak somewhere. But if you contact Nationwide through their online chat, they’ll verify the call is legit. The number is connected to overdue payments, like overdrafts on accounts. In my case it was about a overdue student overdraft payment. You can also pop into a branch and they’ll tell you straight away it’s a genuine call.

Yeah, this number has been 'spoofed' for sure. Spoofing means someone tricks the caller ID to make it look like the call’s coming from a different number, usually one that belongs to a legit person or company, but it’s not really them calling. Loads of people have reported this happening with Nationwide Building Society's number. Just be careful, it’s a scam. They try to get you to clear a fake “overdraft” using your credit or debit card. Next thing you know, your cash has vanished!

Got a call earlier today at 10:57 from what seemed like an automated system claiming to be Nationwide. They were asking for someone totally different. This number kept ringing me non-stop. I checked Twitter where some folks claimed it was a proper Nationwide number, but when I rang Nationwide myself, they told me there’s no action on my accounts. The customer service person even contacted their fraud department, who then called the number and reckoned it’s a scam trying to get you to ring back so they can hit you with expensive call charges. Honestly, I’d recommend blocking it straight away.

I think this might be Nationwide Recovery & Collectons - their website doesn’t list this exact number, but they said they have 4 diferent lines: 0800 464 3136, 3137, 3138, and 3119.

So I've just got a new phone number, and since then I've been getting texts and voicemails from Nationwide about some overdraft tied to an account. They mentioned a name, which I figured must be the previous owner of the number. I decided to check on the Nationwide website via LiveChat, and they confirmed the number is an official Nationwide contact. When I called, an automated voice thanked me, said it was loading my account info, then told me it couldn’t proceed and asked me to call back on the very same number! Confused, I dialled a different Nationwide helpline and they told me the original number is legit. Still don’t get what the point of that is though...

I got two automated calls back to back from 0800 4643136, claiming to be Nationwide. They wanted me to press a button to verify my name. I had spoken to my local branch just yesterday about a mortgage payment, so I figured if this was related, someone there would have called me directly. Unfortunately, the branch was shut for the day by the time I got the calls, so I’ll ring them tomorrow to check if they recognise the number. Somehow, I doubt they will. Honestly, if it was something urgent, I’d expect a real person to be on the line, not some automated system.

Like lots of folks, I figured this was a scam at first, but turns out it was legit. I’d recommend you contact your bank first, just like I did. They’d been trying to send me bank statements but apparently couldn’t, so that’s why they got in touch.

Last night around 8pm, my missus rang me at work to say she'd got an automated call from what seemed like Nationwide, warning about my overdraft. She passed me the number they called from. First off, I dialled Nationwide myself to check my account was all good. Then, just for a laugh, I phoned the number she gave me. Got some recorded message saying they couldn’t find my account and told me to call back during office hours. Seems like even these scam calls stick to business hours nowadays!

My landline rang but went straight to my answerphone. I called back with my number hidden and got an automated message claiming to be Nationwide, asking me to enter the number they’d just called. I wasn’t having any of it and ended the call there. I then contacted Nationwide directly, who looked over my account and confirmed nobody from their side had rung me. They even tried ringing the number themselves. When the automated system asked for info, my contact pressed # a few times. On the real Nationwide line, if you do that, it’ll say it can’t find your details and connect you to someone. But this one simply said it couldn't find anything and then just cut the call! The Nationwide rep I spoke to reckons it’s a fake call. If they ring again, I’m definitely not inputting any details. 23.8.17

I never shared my new phone numbers, neither mobile nor landline, with my bank branch, yet somehow they had it. I got suspicious and rang up their fraud team. They told me the number I was worried about isn’t even registered in their system, so I shouldn’t have given out any info. Also, the bank knows about any overdraft situation and would always send a letter first explaining what’s owed.

If anyone claims this is genuine, they’re not telling the truth. A few months back, I actually went beyond my overdraft limit. Nationwide contacted me with a letter and a call. But they never accepted payments over the phone. Instead, they told me to visit the branch in person.
This is definitely a con.

This is ABSOLUTELY a scam. I went to one of their branches earlier and they told me that number isn’t theirs. They admitted it sounded suspicious. You should report it for sure.

I got a call from this number today and when I picked up, some robotic voice said something like "this is an important call for..." and even used my name, asking me not to hang up. It all felt off and made me uneasy. They wanted me to press buttons to keep the call going, but I just hung up instead. Never dealt with anything like this before. It was a bit creepy that they knew both my name and phone number. I've blocked the number now just to be safe.

Today I nearly fell for this one - got an automated call saying there was an urgent issue with my account. When I dialled back, it asked me to confirm my name and phone number (done in a weird foreign accent). Then it made me pick my birth year from three options before asking for the day and month, that’s when I stopped. After saying no a few times, I got through to a woman who said she understood my worries but couldn’t share anything unless I finished the security steps. I hung up and had a look at Nationwide’s official site; turns out, while they do have fraud alert messages, the number they use isn’t the one I was called from - it’s similar but definitely different. Plus, Nationwide always sends alerts through my online banking inbox, never by voicemail. This scam was pretty smart and sounded convincing, but it’s definitely not from Nationwide’s genuine number, so watch out!
