This morning at about 8:50, I got a call from 08004643138. The caller said they were from Nationwide using a robotic voice that even said my name, then asked me to pick a number from 1 to 5 to confirm. It sounded dodgy, so I ended the call right away and rang my actual bank. Definitely a scam, be careful!

My partner got called three times in a single day from this number. It’s a scam, looks very similar to the Nationwide number but missing one digit, they try to scare you about fraud or scam charges. He contacted the bank straight away and they said nothing suspicious happened. When you pick up, it just drops the call after a message plays automatically, and it goes to voicemail. If you see a number ending in 3138, don’t pick up, instead ring your bank to check it’s legit.

I get why folks might be annoyed by these calls, they’re rarely what you’d call enjoyable. BUT this number is actually legit, it’s Nationwide about loan repayments. I’ve had three calls from them on separate days, and every single one was genuine. They just use an automated voice first due to security reasons before talking about your loan details.

Just like others here, I got a call from Nationwide with an automated voice asking me to answer security questions to prove it's me. Thing is, I called Nationwide directly afterwards, and they said no one had tried to contact me. Then they connected me with their fraud team, who said it’s definitely a scam because of the weird multiple choice questions I was given. Bit odd, innit? I’d suggest you call Nationwide yourself to be sure, but don’t answer or reply to that call just to be safe.

This number keeps popping up on my phone but I never pick up. Sometimes there’s a voicemail and it sounds like a robot talking. The message said it was urgent and mentioned my husband’s name, said it was from Nationwide. They then gave a really weird phone number, like “eight billion four million six forty-three thousand one thirty-eight” or something like that. A legit call would just say the number clearly like 0800 4643 138. It's obviously a scam or spoof. So annoying! This has nothing to do with Nationwide, even if they’re pretending it is. Total waste of time.

A few of these remarks are quite wrong! This isn’t a dodgy call. It’s the Nationwide debt recovery team chasing us because our loan repayments were overdue and they wanted us to sort it out. Someone below claiming to be from Nationwide and saying it’s fake phone call really needs to check their facts. No other firm would have known we missed a payment. It’s definitely not a scam. We did speak to them and it was absolutely real. And yes, they ring multiple times.
