Last night, we took the plunge and grabbed the battery enhancement that was promoted alongside the Angry Birds game on our Android device. To our surprise, we received three texts from the same number, stating that we’ve unwittingly signed up for a directory service, which now means we’ll be hit with a charge of £4.60 per message. I've decided to give Vodafone a call to sort it out. Interestingly, there's also an update for Angry Birds available this evening.

Not to fret, at least you managed to escape from that ordeal!

We've fallen prey to this issue as well this evening. The app isn’t visible in the marketplace, yet it's still lurking on our phone and we’re at our wits' end over how to eliminate it. I've disabled SMS, so I hope there won't be any charges incurred. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we might get rid of this pesky app since it isn't showing up in our list of applications?

Cheers for your assistance! We’re using an HTC and, at long last, we’ve managed to remove the pesky app. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to uncover any further information. The only thing that came up was a screen for terminating applications, with no options to gather extra details. Apologies for any inconvenience! We’re really eager to get rid of this from our device!

We experienced something quite similar to what GT mentioned. I downloaded a battery enhancement app and shortly after received three text messages. I decided to reply with a “stop” text; fingers crossed this does the trick!

We experienced quite the ordeal today! We installed a so-called 'free battery upgrade' app, and oddly enough, the timings of the downloads align perfectly with a text message that appears on our account, even though we definitely did not send it. To make matters worse, we received three messages at 9pm alerting us that we’ve subscribed to something called 'my tech alerts' for a whopping £4.50 a week. What a palaver!

We removed the application and texted 'quit' to 60199. It seems the app has vanished from the Android Marketplace or perhaps we're just unable to locate it. It's baffling how this app is even permitted to be listed in the marketplace in the first place-what a major oversight!

We had the same experience, to be honest. We sent a text to unsubscribe, but I'm starting to wonder if that was the right decision. It’s also linked to the battery app, which we’ve since removed from our devices.

We had the same experience, having also downloaded the exact app (the free battery enhancement one). It strikes us as rather dodgy, though what’s baffling is that the same shortcode is linked to a separate service called My Weather Alerts with Orange. We’re thinking that it might be prudent to raise our concerns with PhonepayPlus, and possibly Ofcom as well, while also having a word with Orange about this whole debacle.

We reckon it's an app from the Play Store for searching, as we encountered the exact same issue not long after we installed it.

Could anyone assist me in locating a feature within the app that allows me to verify author names? If you're looking to uninstall the app, here’s a simple method: Navigate to your applications screen, hit the menu key, and select the edit option. You should see a minus sign appear in the top left corner of the apps. Just tap that minus sign to remove or delete the app. This approach should be effective if you're using a Samsung device with TouchWiz interface.

We've unfortunately fallen prey to this as well today; it’s as if we’ve stepped into a mirror of your situation right after we installed this bothersome battery update scam. Three texts came in, just like that. If only there was a way to resolve this mess!

Is there anyone out there who’s still got the app on their device? If so, could someone possibly unearth the name of the person behind it and share it here?

I received a text message from this number, and I'm convinced it’s one of those battery scams. Best advice? Just delete it without opening anything if you get a message from them. Save yourself the hassle!
