I experienced the very same thing just yesterday! I dialled the number and all I got was that annoying 'unobtainable' chime. Just disregard the pop-up - I chose to do so, and thankfully, my computer's all in working order!

I've encountered this pesky pop-up for the second time now. It claims there's a virus attempting to pilfer my personal information and threatens to shut down my computer if I don't dial a certain number within five minutes. Well, I chose not to call, and guess what? My computer is still running perfectly fine! I strongly advise steering clear of that number; it’s a total scam, in my opinion.

I saw a post on Facebook saying Kirk Douglas had passed away and clicked the link out of curiosity. Suddenly, a voice started warning me that my computer was hacked and infected with a virus. It told me to ring a certain number to fix it. Of course, I didn’t bother calling and my laptop is still working perfectly.

I saw the Paul McCartney link on Facebook and thought it looked legit, so I clicked on it. Luckily, I didn’t download anything and my computer seems okay. I rarely use Facebook anyway, and after this, I don’t think I’ll be using it at all.

I got this annoying pop-up telling me my PC was full of viruses and I had to ring some number. It happened after I clicked on a link on Facebook about Graham Norton supposedly dying. Totally a SCAM. Just shut the pop-up and don’t bother with these nasty scammers trying to charge you for a fake problem.

Is there anyone who can help me? I keep getting this alert and message on my computer and I have no idea how to turn it off. Thanks in advance!

I saw a message saying Graham Norton had passed away and it asked me to ring this number. I called it just to tell them what complete idiots they are, but the number wasn’t even working anymore. So I just shut my computer down and restarted it.

I saw an ad about Paul McCarttney and called the number it showed, then my keyboard just froze up. I used my iPad to find this site and quickly forced a shutdown. When I restarted, the phone shut down ok and now seems to be working alright. Definitely a dodgy scam to watch out for.

So yesterday, I rang this number after seeing a message on Facebook saying that Graham Norton had passed away. Foolishly, I let them take over my computer remotely, and even worse, I handed over the money they demanded. I'm 76, a widow, and honestly, this has really upset me. I never imagined I'd be tricked by something like this! Does anyone know if there's a way to regain control of my computer or get my money back?

My sister just got a notification on her tablet claiming it was infected and asking her to ring 08000698622. The person on the other end sounded Indian and was trying to charge £159 for a fix. She told them to shove off immediately.

So I was scrolling through Facebook when a warning popped up telling me to call this number. I couldn’t get the alert to disappear, so in a daft move, I phoned it and ended up talking to a bloke with an Indian accent from some call centre. He said he'd check my computer and then charged me £240 after “inspecting” it. I let him access my computer remotely - how foolish was I! Luckily, I never handed over any passwords or paid them a penny.

I got hit with that annoying pop-up too - something about calling them within 5 minutes 'cause my computer was supposedly infected. It popped up after I clicked a link on Facebook claiming Paul McCartney had died (don’t worry, he’s still very much alive). Had to force close my browser using Ctrl+Alt+Del and restart it, which was a pain. Honestly, I’m quite let down that Facebook hasn’t removed this fake scam that’s just trying to rip people off.

These scammers were trying it on at my elderly mum and dad’s place. Dad was still chatting away on the phone to them when I arrived. They told him some message popped up saying their computer was infected with a virus and their system was ‘frozen’, and they had to call this number to fix it. When I checked the laptop, there was nothing wrong at all. Fortunately, I grabbed the phone from dad before he gave them any of his details or let them take over the computer!

Back in March 2017, I was scrolling through Facebook when a post appeared saying Graham Norton had passed away. I clicked the link without thinking, and almost instantly, a pop-up appeared claiming my laptop was infected with a virus. It urged me to ring this number, 08000698622. Foolishly, I called. A man with an Indian accent answered and demanded £159 to fix the virus supposedly on my machine. That’s when I got wary and told him I didn't have the money. Later, I ran Norton Virus on my Mac, which did find a virus but it’s all sorted now. Hope that’s the end of it!

Saw a couple of dodgy Facebook ads claiming that Michael Caine had passed away, trying to freak people out into calling some number. It’s really nasty how they’re using fake celeb news like that. Can’t believe Facebook is letting this sort of scam run on their platform - makes you wonder if they’re just so desperate for ad money they don’t bother checking.

I was scrolling on Facebook and clicked a link about Graham Norton being dead. Right away a warning popped up saying my info was being stolen and I had to call a free number or else my PC would lock. I couldn’t even shut the page down, had to just switch off my computer. Proper frightening stuff. Best just to ignore it and turn off your device.

My parents got this weird popup on their laptop after clicking on a story about Noel Edmunds supposedly dying. Luckily, my dad wasn’t fooled by the scary message and weird audio it played. I can understand how some folks might believe it’s legit because the scammers made it look just like official Facebook stuff. Honestly, I hope the nasty, lazy scumbag behind this mess gets what they deserve. Please, never ring any number that shows up in these popups. If you’re really worried your computer might be infected, just turn it off, unplug it, and ask a younger person for help.

This just happened to me earlier, I didn’t even realise I’d clicked on some dodgy Noel Edmunds link until I found this page. People call me the Facebook police, so it’s well embarrassing that I almost got caught out. I’m working under a tight deadline and feeling knackered and stressed, which definitely made me less careful. Thanks for all the comments though. Thankfully, once I deleted the rubbish, my computer was fine. It threw me a bit because a few days prior, Facebook logged me out on its own, which had never happened before.

I got a weird pop-up after clicking on a star on Facebook, and it showed a phone number. Within like 5 minutes, they somehow got my credit card info! Bloody crazy. I’m retired and honestly, it really freaked me out. Shut everything down right away. What absolute prats!

Late at night on Saturday 4th March 2017, around 11:48pm, I was on Facebook and clicked a link about Noel Edmonds being dead. Suddenly, a warning appeared on my screen saying I had a virus and that my passwords, account info and credit card details might be stolen. It showed a phone number, 0800 0698622, so I called it. A man named James Brion answered - he spoke with an Indian accent and said he was based in the US. The message kept urging me to ring that number within 5 minutes or my computer would get locked. Honestly, it was a total scam. From Anne in Derby.

Beware of this number, it’s really dodgy. A pop-up came up on my PC saying my info was being stolen and I had to phone that number in 5 mins or my computer would get locked. I didn’t call, just shut down my laptop and turned it back on, and everything seemed fine. Stay away from calling it!

I got a call about £199 for some computer security thing but wasn't really sure if they actually wanted money or what. Seemed a bit fishy to me.
