Bloody scam, what a nightmare!

I received a rather alarming call from this number earlier today, claiming to be from HMRC. They insisted that there was a tax fraud allegation against me and that if I didn’t press 1, I would face immediate arrest. It was rather hectic at the time, around half nine, and I’m currently expecting, so you can imagine the panic! Honestly, I was so taken aback that I nearly swooned when they insisted I couldn't return the call and told me to grab a notepad to jot down their so-called details. They were throwing around all sorts of information, including a year when I wasn't even working as I was relying on my husband. I tried to explain to them that they ought to reassess their records, as I haven’t had any income during those years, and I only lived at that address for a mere six months without ever registering with HMRC. It’s all so bewildering!

About six hours ago, I got a call that was full of threats. They told me there's an arrest warrant out for me, and that I'll be picked up for tax evasion within a day. They kept saying I purposely messed up my accounts over time and now owe £2600. The caller insisted I get a decent criminal lawyer to help me. They even said if I lose the case, I could be fined as much as £79,000 and end up in prison for up to five years.

Got a call from someone pretending to be HMRC, claiming I’m being looked into for tax fraud. Total nonsense, don’t fall for it! Best thing to do is just block the number straight away. You can always report them to HMRC, though chances of catching these scammers is pretty slim. Most of these dodgy callers are actually running scams themselves, using some trick called dial-through fraud on small business phone systems without them even realising. Stay sharp!

I got a voicemail saying I was under investigation for tax evasion by the HMRC and to press 1 for more info. It felt a bit off to me since I doubt HMRC would handle it like that, so I just hung up. Still, since I’m self-employed, it did make me a bit worried at first.

So this person calls pretending to be from HMRC, right? But the moment I pressed 1, it switched to some American talking about a survey. I seriously don't think HMRC runs surveys like that, so I just hung up straight away.
