Someone rang me claiming they were from HMRC about some kind of fraud issue. Felt a bit dodgy to me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC - total scam! HMRC always contact you by letter first, they dont just ring out of the blue unless there's already an ongoing case and they’ve sent you a letter. Watch out!

‭0345 300 3493‬ A bloke with a weird American computer-ish accent rang me claiming to be from HMRC, saying I owed them over £3K in tax from 2012. He kept threatening that I had a court date tomorrow and would be arrested if I didn’t pay up. He even said I couldn’t get on my flight (I was just about to board) and that HMRC would ring the airport. He asked where I was flying to but I told him I’d call HMRC myself. Then he said if I hung up I’d be arrested. Total scam.

Got a call from 0345 300 3981 telling me I’m under investigation for fraud and if I don’t hit 1 I’ll be arrested soon. It really freaked me out and gave me a panic attack right in the middle of morrisons, had to leave straight away and go home. This kind of thing needs to be put to an end.

Just got a call from this number, same story as the others. I just ended the call - definitely looks like a scam.

3453003909 called me claiming it’s a fraud investigation. Not HMRC like others said here. HMRC always sends letters through the post. If they phone, they usually come up as private or no caller ID.

‭0345 300 3974‬ rang me claiming to be from HMRC saying there was tax evasion stuff to discuss, but I’m on PAYE so it didn’t seem right. I just ended the call and looked up HMRC’s contact number myself. When I got through to them, they said they always send a letter first, never call out the blue like that.

‭0345 300 3972‬ rang me saying there was a fraud warrant out for my arrest. It showed up as tax credits on caller ID but I phoned tax credits directly and found it was a scam. I never done anything dodgy but it’s defo worth double checking in case someone’s trying to use your info.

I just got a call from 0345 300 3949, it was one of those recorded messages telling me I was under fraud investigation and if I didn't press 1, they'd send an arrest warrant right away. I didn't say anything and the call cut off straight away!!

Got a ring from 0345 300 3949 with an automated voice saying there’s a fraud case against me and a warrant out for my arrest. It told me to press 1 to talk to the officer handling it. Said if I don’t comply I’ll be arrested straight away. Honestly, it’s really scary stuff and someone should put a stop to this.

BEWARE OF THIS SCAM - steer clear of any calls from this number, do NOT engage in any way, do NOT press 1 or return their calls. There's absolutely no need to worry about their intimidating threats; ignoring their insidious messages won't bring about any legal trouble for you. These scammers are falsely masquerading as representatives from HMRC, using scare tactics to threaten you with sudden arrest over fictitious tax debts, demanding immediate payments! They are manipulative and aggressive, preying on unsuspecting individuals, and sadly, have already fleeced multiple elderly victims.

Just got a call like this. The person on the line told me not to hang up, then said to go into my bank and take out over £1000 in £20 notes and not to tell anyone what it was for. It was terrifying, felt like they had some kinda threat over me. Luckily, I arrived at the bank in tears and chatted with the manager who said it was definitely a scam and told me to hang up. The Barclays staff were really kind and called the police, who advised me to report it to HMRC. It’s scary how these people can do stuff like this and sometimes get away with it.

Got a recorded message saying I was accused of fraud and to press 1 to talk to the officer handling it, otherwise I'd be arrested soon. Honestly, this kind of call could easily freak people out and make them do what it says.

Missed a call earlier and looked it up - seems like it's from HMRC. Tried to ring back, but kept getting a busy signal or it just rings out then disconnects. Glad I found this site before getting worried! Definitely blocking the number now. It's crazy they're allowed to do this! I’m not elderly or anything, but it would’ve really freaked me out, even though I know I’m all clear. With all the online scams these days, you never know if someone’s doing dodgy stuff pretending to be you!

If you have a gander at it online, you'll find it's the right contact number, but it appears that some dodgy characters have managed to mess with the system. I had a chat with HMRC, and they’ve assured me this is indeed a scam they're clued up about. If they happen to ring you - which would only happen if you were already anticipating their call - the number will come up as withheld. Plus, they typically send out a letter first rather than just ringing you out of the blue.

EARLY MORNING AROUND 7am yesterday, a guy called John Smith with a strong Indian accent phoned me from 03453003909. He gave a badge number like 985X0LR and said my case number was 892241761 plus something called an arrest warrant ID 2481965. He threatened me to pay back some tax I supposedly dodged or else the police would be at my door within 45 minutes, risking 4 years in jail for tax fraud. I honestly had no clue what he was on about. But I’m sure loads of vulnerable folks could easily get tricked by this conman and it really winds me up!!

My mother-in-law got a missed call from this number and decided to ring back. They asked for her name, which she told them, then wanted her to verify her address. She said if they were really from HMRC, they would already have that info. Creepy enough, they knew the name of the street she lives on. They said she’d paid too much tax. When she said she’s a pensioner and that couldn’t be right, they just ended the call. Number added to the block list straight away!!!

I got a call similar to what others mentioned, saying there's a warrant out for me and I'm being looked into for tax fraud. Got the exact same call as loads of others, funny thing is they played a recorded message with an American accent, like HMRC would ever talk that way. I reckon it’s cause lots of people abroad learn English from American stuff and think that’s how people chat in the UK.

Got a couple of calls from this number with a recorded message saying it was HMRC and that there’s a warrant for my arrest. I've received calls from this number on several occasions now. I really wish I could figure out how to block it! It’s always an automated message in an American accent claiming there’s a tax fraud case against me and that a warrant has been issued for my arrest. Initially, I felt quite anxious upon hearing it. But within moments, I came to my senses and realised it was nothing but a scam. As someone who’s self-employed, I keep my tax affairs in order and am fully compliant, as confirmed by HMRC. If there were any actual issues, I highly doubt HMRC would resort to using an American-sounding robotic voice to reach out to individuals. It’s all complete nonsense! They’re just trying to dupe people out of their hard-earned cash over the phone. Please don’t let it bother you or waste your time calling back; just hang up when you receive such a call!

Got a ring from this number earlier. The American accent and the way they spoke made me suspicious it was a scam, and it’s good to see others here confirming that it’s a dodgy call. Honestly, it’s alarming how many people are getting these calls.

This number just rang me saying they were from HMRC accusing me of tax fraud and told me to press one to talk to someone. I didn't fall for it and ended the call straight away, then made sure to report it.

I gave iPhones 101 a ring regarding this number, and they mentioned it typically pressures you to settle your outstanding balance immediately, often intimidating you into doing so. It's an absolute scam and quite a nasty piece of work, if you ask me. If you’ve experienced anything similar, do consider reporting it to Action Fraud!

Got a call from 0345 300 3909, with a message accusing me of tax evasion. Thought it was strange since I work in the NHS! Then an Indian accented voice came on, repeating the same thing. It felt dodgy so I just ended the call. DO NOT GIVE ANY INFO - THIS IS A PHISHING SCAM. I also reported it by emailing [email protected].

Lately I keep getting calls from different versions of what looks like the same American number. Each time it's an automated voice claiming to be HMRC and saying there's an arrest warrant out for me. I've just been blocking and ignoring them but they keep switching the number. It's really annoying and quite worrying!!

Just like all the other folks said here, it’s obvious a scam (that robotic American accent gave it away), but how do they manage to fake their caller ID to show it’s HMRC? Loads of people are gonna fall for this. This needs to be shut down fast.

Clearly a dodgy operation! I can’t imagine HMRC stooping to such low tactics with automated phone calls. Honestly, these sly tricksters should really consider finding proper jobs instead of conning people!

About five minutes ago, I received a call from someone claiming to be HMRC, saying they’re after me for unpaid taxes. They told me there’s an arrest warrant out for me if I don’t pay up. Total rubbish. Don’t fall for it and definitely don’t send any money - it’s a scam.

As with countless others, I've had my fair share of calls from this number. I must say, I’m fortunate to be in a sound state of mind. However, one can't help but ponder how distressing this could be for someone vulnerable, perhaps an elderly individual or someone unwell. The potential psychological impact on them is genuinely alarming. It makes me wonder whether there might be a role for the government to step in and address this unsettling issue.
