A woman called me and already had my full name, address, and postcode. She claimed that because I don’t use my boiler much, I qualify for a discount on my boiler insurance. She also mentioned I could save money on a new policy if I signed up immediately. Then she asked me for my bank details! I told her it sounded dodgy because a proper company would already have that info. I ended the call and blocked the number. It’s concerning that older or vulnerable folks who actually have insurance might fall for this and hand over their details.

This morning I got a call from a lady saying we hadn’t claimed on our boiler insurance and qualified for a refund. She gave me a yearly payment amount which sounded about right. I told her I’d need to look into it and asked if she could give me her phone number so I could ring back. She suddenly got quite pushy and insisted on talking to my husband. I explained he wasn’t available. I kept asking for her contact details but she said she couldn’t give them unless she spoke to him. At that point, I just ended the call. Later, I used 1471 to check the number and it showed as 03332129691.

On the 28th of September, 2018, I received a voicemail claiming I had a £13,000 tax refund waiting. They urged me to press 1 to connect with an advisor. This is definitely a SCAM! DO NOT engage or press any keys, simply disconnect the call.

On 28/9/18, got a call with a voicemail claiming to be from the tax office, saying I had a £13,000 rebate waiting. They told me to press 1 to talk to a tax agent. Total scam for sure (haven't been working for 8 years since I retired). Number was blocked. Don't ever press anything or answer, just hang up straight away!

Someone rang my partner pretending to be from Homeserve, offering a £70 discount on her yearly bill because she was a loyal customer. Since she’d just had her heating checked by Homeserve a few days earlier, it seemed believable. The caller then asked for her credit card info, which she gave over. When she told me, I got suspicious - why would they need card details if she already pays by direct debit? I looked up the number here and quickly found out it was a con. We cancelled her card straight away. These fraudsters are seriously risky.

Got a call from a woman saying my Home Serve boiler cover was about to expire. I told her I didn’t even know I had any cover since my boiler must be like 20 years old. Mentioned I’d check with my son, who’s a builder, if there were any issues, then she just hung up. Definitely sounds like a scam to me.

At first, it sounded pretty believable, but then they started asking for my bank card info and account stuff, so I just ended the call. They said they were from BG Homeserve. We actually have agreements with both BG and Homeserve, but I rang both companies and none of them made the call. I'm not sure how to report this to the police though. Anyone got any ideas?

I got a call from someone saying they could help cut my boiler insurance costs, but they kept getting the amount I pay wrong and insisted it couldn’t be paid by direct debit because it was supposedly too little. When I told him I wasn’t interested, he got really frustrated and just ended the call.

I got a call from 03332129691, said they were from my boiler service company. They already knew loads about me and said they could cut the price of my cover. They even recited my full name and address, then mentioned the first few digits of my bank card. After that, they tried to get the rest of my card number. Seriously, don’t hand over your full card info to anyone on the phone, no matter what they claim!

Got a call just like the one mentioned before, literally the exact same script. I really can't get why, nowadays, when the police have a landline number for these scammers, they don’t just go round and bust them for once! It’s beyond me.

I got a call from someone saying it was about my boiler insurance, but it’s actually with Domestic & General. They seemed to have loads of info about me - they knew we’ve already got cover, which bank we’re with, and even the first four digits of my card. They were pushing me to renew right there on the call, which felt a bit off.

Had a very similar experience to what others have mentioned here. When I asked the caller to explain things properly, he just got annoyed and started being really sarcastic. I told him off for being rude and said I'd get my husband to deal with him since we definitely don’t have any fancy insurance on our boiler! And then, surprise surprise, he just ended the call! You can’t even ring that number again. Feels like a total scam to me!

I got a call from some company I'd never heard of, saying they could offer cheaper boiler upkeep. Sounds alright at first, but as soon as they asked for my bank card details, I said no way. I reported this number to the TPS but here’s a bit of what they sent back: “after trying hard, TPS couldn’t find any real contact info or address to follow up on this complaint.” definitely looks like a scam to me.

some guy calling from 'oiler protection network' was really pushy, kinda acted like i was already signed up with them, which i definitely am not. when i told him i was on the do not call list, he just said 'i’m not ringing about that', like he honestly couldn’t care less about the rules. then he wanted my address to send some papers. seriously, block these people if you’re not interested!

I got a call from a woman saying I had insurance with them and because I hadn’t made a claim, they could lower my annual fee and send me new documents. Then she started asking for my bank details and stuff. I asked her what it was about since I already have cover through my local provider. She insisted they’re both local and nationwide, covering gas boilers everywhere. When I mentioned I don’t even have a gas boiler, she asked if I was sure. My village doesn’t even have mains gas supply! After I said that, she admitted I must’ve been on the wrong list. Complete messers.

Got a call from someone saying they were with Boiler Protection Network and had some link to BGAS service contract holders. They said they could offer better terms for customers with few claims and lower risk. They wanted me to switch payments from direct debit to debit card, asked for card number and expiry date right away. They mentioned a legal team would get in touch soon and paperwork would come after that. Sounded pretty legit at first but felt off - definitely looked like a scam to me.
