Got a call from 03002003975, and it showed up as HMRC on my screen. Since I work as a SiP telecoms installer, I figured I’d explain why HMRC might show instead of the actual number. Loads of companies use something called an alias to display a name instead of the digits. Scammers do this trick too, unfortunately. The best way to handle this is to remember that proper services like HMRC won’t call you directly - they’ll always send a letter first.
