I got a call warning me that if I didn’t press 1, I’d be arrested straight away. So, I pressed it. A person answered saying they needed a moment to check my file. They told me there was a criminal record for tax fraud under my name. Then they asked who handles my taxes, my accountant or someone else? I told them I’m an international student, and then they just said forget it and hung up! What was that about? 😩

I recently received a rather alarming call from the number 03002003974. Upon answering, I was met with a recorded message threatening that a tax default of £40,000 was filed against my name. It went on to say that if I didn’t press 1 to speak with them, an arrest warrant would be issued and the police would be sent to take me into custody immediately. This is absolutely unacceptable harassment! Is there anyone I can reach out to in order to report this and possibly take some legal action? If it turns out to be a scam, it could certainly pose a risk to the community. Such malicious pranks ought to be brought to the attention of the relevant authorities.

Those HMRC fraudsters got my sister worried sick! She was about to splash out on cash vouchers for more than £1,000, and when I questioned her she quietly said, "It's HMRC calling, I supposedly owe them taxes and am sorting it out with these vouchers as they told me to." Watch out! This scam is everywhere and very convincing!
